A baby shower is a fun time for the mother to be and all of her closest friends and family. To make the day even more fun for everyone, a few games or activities should be played. This gives the guests a chance to join in on the fun and have a chance at winning a fun little prize. Just make sure whatever games you choose do not embarrass your guests and it is something that all your guests will enjoy doing.
We’ve all been to many baby showers over the course of our lives. Sometimes they can be dreadfully predictable and boring. That is why it is important to find unique games to play. One such game that I recently discovered but had never ever played at a shower or even heard anyone else mention was “Its also a baby’s name”. This game is full of clues that you answer with a baby’s name. For example, what is another word for wealthy? The answer would be Rich, which is also a boy’s name. Another example is what is believing without seeing? The answer would be Faith, a girl’s name. You can customize this game to the gender of the baby of the mom to be or if the mom to be does not know the sex of the baby you can do both genders. Just look for clues on the internet or make up your own. Print them out on computer paper and distribute to your guests, give them 2-5 minutes depending on the number of clues and the person who gets the most right wins. If you have a tie you can choose to distribute more than one prize or use a tiebreaker, the person whose birthday is closest to the baby’s due date wins.
Another option is to do onesie decorating. This is not necessarily classified as a game but the mom to be can choose the most creative onesie and a prize can be distributed. Buy enough white onesies for the number of guests attending your shower and then you can hand them out during the time the mom to be is opening presents. That way everyone is occupied while the mom to be is opening her gifts and they will not be bored but can still pay attention and see the mom to be open her gifts. You can buy onsies in bulk on the internet if you have a huge guest list, otherwise you can purchase multi packs at baby stores. Fabric markers work really well and can also be purchased in bulk from an online art supplies website or at craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
Finally you can play “Name that Disney movie”. This can be played one of two ways. The first way is to provide a clue on a piece of paper that describe a certain Disney movie and then have the guests determine which Disney movie is being described. You can also put together 20 or 30 second clips of different Disney movies and play them on a TV and have the guests guess the Disney movie by watching the movie clips. Make sure to get a good mix of the classics like Cinderella and Snow White and include some of the newer ones like The Princess and the Frog and Tangled. That way the game will be a little more challenging for the adults at the shower who may not have seen all of the newer Disney movies.
Playing games at a shower is expected but having some fun unique ones may pleasantly surprise your guests and they will walk away having actually had a good time at a baby shower. Instead of walking away thinking thank god that’s over!
