Treatments for Bronchitis

Bronchitis, Vaporizers

If you find yourself suffering from a bout of bronchitis this winter, you can get relief by following these effective treatments for bronchitis that have worked for me throughout the years. The signs and symptoms of bronchitis can be very disturbing, especially when they keep you awake at night. For me, bronchitis is always worse at night when I am lying down. These helpful treatments for bronchitis always help me get relief from bronchitis.

1. Using a vaporizer. When I use my vaporizer, it seems like my congestion loosens up and I can breathe easier. The moist steam feel very soothing on my irritated bronchial passages and it makes coughing easier. The steam and heat are also very soothing to a stuffy nose that also can accompany bronchitis. Some vaporizers suggest that you put a pinch of salt in the water to hasten the boiling that will produce the needed steam. The salt does two things – it helps get the water to boil and produce steam, and the saline content of the steam does a great job on opening up the sinuses. I find that using salt in my vaporizer helps my symptoms of bronchitis more than if I don’t use it. Using a vaporizer is one of the treatments for bronchitis that always does the trick for me.

2. Other treatments for bronchitis include drinking lots of fluids. This may seem so elementary and simple, but it is one of the most effective treatments for bronchitis that I know of. The fluids actually help thin out secretions that cause congestion. Warm liquids seem to be more effective in treating bronchitis because sometimes cold liquids can trigger a coughing attack. Treatments for bronchitis that include warm liquids such as tea and soup are very soothing and help quiet a hacking cough.

3. Taking a hot shower is one of the first treatments for bronchitis that comes to mind when I first feel bronchitis coming on. Treatments for bronchitis that include taking hot showers work on the same principles as the vaporizer does. Breathing in the hot steam is very soothing and it also loosens thick mucus making it easier to expel. A hot shower also is very calming and can promote a good night’s sleep that is very important in fighting off a bronchial infection.

4. When I think of treatments for bronchitis, lemon and water comes to mind. I usually squeeze the juice of one fresh lemon and put it into a glass of cool or lukewarm water, never cold, and drink it. The lemon also seems to think out mucus secretions and make it easier to cough up the mucus. You have to be very careful if you have bronchitis because when mucus stays in the lungs and is not expelled it can cause an overgrowth of bacteria leading to pneumonia or other serious infection.

5. One of the most important treatments for bronchitis is getting enough rest. Even if you don’t feel that sick, you still need lots of rest to fight the infection. Getting adequate sleep and not over exerting yourself will help you to feel better fast. By becoming run down and not resting, you are simply taxing your already fragile immune system. Rest is very healing and it will help you feel better and recover from your bronchitis. I feel this is one of the most important treatments of bronchitis.

6. Probably the most important thing that comes to mind when thinking of treatments for bronchitis is to call your doctor. Your doctor will be able to decide, by examination whether or not you need an antibiotic or other medication to relieve your bronchitis. As far as treatments for bronchitis goes, you can employ these suggestions to keep you comfortable, but there is no substitution for treatments for bronchitis for seeing your doctor. You do not want to risk a more serious infection by trying to treat yourself and by foregoing medical care. By employing these suggestions, and most importantly by seeing your doctor, these treatments for bronchitis can help get you felling better in no time.

These treatments for bronchitis have been very effective for me, however everyone is different, so they may or may not work for you.
