Top Ten Favorite Foods for Hot Weather

Activia, Livejournal, Pbj, Strawberry Recipes

I’m a sucker for tasty, refreshing food during the summer, and I like top ten lists too, so here is my Top Ten list of favorite foods to eat during hot weather. They’re not in order because to chose a favorite would be very difficult, if not impossible.

Ten: Watermelon

I love watermelon. I don’t include it in any recipes except for smoothies and oftentimes, not even them. I just cut it open and eat it. I even ate the seeds while ignoring the urban legend that a watermelon would grow in your stomach if you swallowed the seeds.

Nine: Strawberries

Tasty, refreshing, and can go with many kinds of desserts. I cut up strawberries and add sugar for a simple, yummy snack. Recipezaar.com is full of strawberry recipes.

Eight: Sea Salt Ice Cream

This isn’t just a dessert found in a video game. It actually is an ice cream and the recipe, along with the Peppermint variant, can be found at Recipezaar.com. It’s a surprisingly good combination of sugar, and sea salt. The Peppermint version is especially refreshing. Some people make them on a stick, but I just eat it in an ice cream bowl.

Seven: Fruit Salad, also can be called Ambrosia.

There are a lot of versions of this “salad” and they often involve marshmallows and cool whip. Allrecipes.com and Recipezaar.com have a ton of recipes there. The ones I pick out to make include nuts and vanilla pudding.

Six: Oranges

I don’t often eat oranges unless they’re combined with something else, but during the summer, I end up peeling one, and gobbling it up. I even utilize the peel by cutting it up and letting the juices squirt on me.

Five: Smoothies

I experiment a lot with smoothies. I’ve ice, milk, coconut milk, assorted fruits(mostly berries), and have even used peanut butter and jelly for a “PBJ smoothie. There are a ton of smoothes at Recipezaar.com and most of them are very good. I’m never afraid to “mix” different ingredients together for a filling, thirst quenching drink.

Four: Ice

Yes, just ice. Sometimes flavored like snocones or shaved ice, but most often, it’s just ice after a soft drink or water. It’s not uncommon for me to fill a cup with ice, drink the contents, and crunch the ice for added refreshment. I don’t actually eat flavored ice much, but I do like it.

Three: Applesauce

An apple day keeps the doctor away, but I don’t consider whole apples refreshing. Applesauce, on the other hand, I do. I’m not really picky about whether or not it’s homemade, but recipezaar.com does have recipes for those who don’t like Mott’s Applesauce or any other brand.

Two: Yoghurt

From Dannon to Activia, Yoghurt is one of my favorite foods during the summer. If there’s chunks of fruit in it, then I eat it alone. If no, then I’ll often combine it with smoothie ingredients or pancakes. My favorite flavors are peach, strawberry, and anything with berry in it. Great for breakfast too.

One: Chilled Berry and Red Wine Soup.

It’s a low calorie soup that combines blueberries, strawberries, frozen apple juice, red wine, cinnamon, all spice, plain yoghurt, raspberries, seedless berry spread, sugar/splenda and toasted almonds. I found the recipe in a Livejournal community known as “Food Porn. URL is http://www.livejournal.com/food_porn. It is delicious and if I had to choose a favorite, this one would be it.
