Top 5 Cheap Motels In Long Beach, California

Long Beach is a Los Angeles community conveniently located about 20 miles South of Downtown and just North of Orange County. Long Beach is a very popular area for tourists, businesspeople, and locals alike due to the close proximity of all the main Los Angeles attractions and the Long Beach Airport which can offer easier LA access than LAX.

Long Beach shines in its availability of locally owned and operated motels that allow visitors to rent rooms on a daily or weekly basis. Sure it can be a magical experience to stay at the Disneyland Hotel but it’s extremely expensive. By staying in a Long Beach motel, you can save a ton of money and have the ability to visit more attractions or simply be able to cut costs on the entire trip itself.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 cheap motels in Long Beach, California as of July 2010.

Super 8 Long Beach

If you’re in town for Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, or Universal Studios, the Super 8 Long Beach is one of the best deals in town. Rooms run between $77 and $96 after taxes depending on how many beds you want and the quality of the room. A “superior” room with 1 king size bed will cost about the same as a “normal” room with 2 queens. What makes this motel an excellent choice is the location. This motel has Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm just to the North and the famous Huntington Beach just to the South. The same motel chain just 20 miles north and you’ll be paying an extra $30 per night.

Hyland Motel Long Beach

The Hyland Motel is actually part of the Magnuson Hotel chain and offers some of the cheapest rates to be found in Long Beach. If you only need one bed, the rate is only $55 and comes with free high speed internet. There’s no pool and you aren’t within walking distance to the beach but for $55 a night, who cares! This is one of the best deals I’ve come across while traveling around Los Angeles and is my personal recommendation if you are looking for a cheap Long Beach motel that you’ll basically use as a base camp only. Make sure to try California Sushi and Teriyaki which is located right down the street.

Tower Motel Long Beach

If you are really on a budget and are looking for the cheapest possible motel without regard for any amenities, the Tower Motel is the perfect choice for you. This motel is very close to the Long Beach Airport which while making the rooms cheaper, can make it a little noisy during the day. There is free high speed internet access and a free continental breakfast. All I can say about this motel is it’s cheap. If you’re looking to spend a lot of time in your motel room, pick another place. This motel is loud during the day due to the airplanes and the street outside has fairly heavy traffic, especially on the weekends. With rates as low as $44 per night, it’s a steal and is perfect for the family looking to spend one night in Long Beach while traveling. Stay the night at the Tower, go to Disneyland, then pack up and get on with your trip. This is definitely a one night only type of place. Perfect for single travelers who just need to get a nights sleep. The Tower motel is also part of the Magnuson Hotels chain.

Motel 6 Long Beach

The Motel 6 is famous for its “We’ll leave the light on for you” slogan and that’s just what they do. The “vacancy” light is on at this motel even during peak summer tourist weekends which makes it a great choice for families and business people. There are a couple things that make the Motel 6 Long Beach stand out from other motels. Kids are free, you can bring a pet, and there’s laundry facilities on site. If you have kids and pets, you need a washer and dryer nearby. This is a clean and quiet motel with rates that average $60 for a room with 2 queen sized beds.

Carlton Motel Long Beach

The Carlton Motel in Long Beach is a great cheap motel that offers more than you’d expect. You can get a great, clean room for about $55 per night and you can get that room with a bottle of red or white whine for just a tad more. There are discounts for AARP members, government employees, and senior citizens as well. You can have a pet with you and the rooms have 32 inch plasma televisions. This is a great motel, the lobby is very unique and you can expect a pleasant stay no matter what.

Keep in mind, most of these motels are what I call “base camp” motels. You won’t be doing any hot tubbing, swimming, fine dining, or working out in their state of the art gym. These motels are for people on a budget who want to visit LA and Long Beach is their destination of choice.
