When you are traveling through Texas, you may know about the sights and sounds of Austin. The state capital, the University of Texas, Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Park and Hippie Hollow. Do you know about things to do and places to go in nearby towns, towns like Pflugerville, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Georgetown, Round Rock and Lockhart? You can find hidden goodies in the small towns. Well, here’s some things you can do in one of those towns: Lockhart, Texas. Located about 30 miles south of Austin on Highway 183 Lockhart is the County Seat of Caldwell County and here are just a few of things you can do in Lockhart, Texas. Here’s hoping you’ll love this small but growing town on Plum Creek just south of Austin, Texas.

Prices are a little expensive for my taste, but if you are a fan of live theatre this will be well worth the price and the drive. It is located across from the library in Lockhart. Call the theatre for show times and prices or visit their website.

The Clark Library is the oldest library in Texas. It is the perfect combination of historic and modern. It has a rich selection of books, several internet computers(the chamber of commerce says 6, I think it is more) and at least 6 tables that offer seating for 4 people each to plug in their laptops and access wireless internet.

This is one of the best and most economical places to eat anywhere in Texas. They could probably use better sausage, but everything else is great, including the prices.

State Park Rd. is basically Hwy 20 going west towards Fentress (turn right by the Dairy Queen if you are traveling South on Hwy 183).

In addition to campsites, picnics, and swimming (charges a fee) the Lockhart State Park has a 9 hole golf course. If you spend any significant amount of time in Texas, you might want to buy an annual pass for $60 per year: Click here for information of park passes.

Brock Cabin situated at:
Lions Park
S. Colorado St. (Hwy 183) across from the HEB Grocery Store

HEB is a grocery store across Highway 183 (Colorado Street) from what is called Lions Park and is where the Brock Cabin is Located.

There are several restaurants in Lockhart including Sirloin Stockade, Huddle House and the other Barbeque restaurants. It is the Barbeque Capital of the Universe (but officially of Texas). Lockhart also has a movie Theatre: Hometown Cinema with first run movies and last I checked, you can get some of the best prices of movies anywhere at Hometown Cinemas.
