Top 10 Romantic Comedies of the Decade

Edward Burns, James Marsden, Michael Vartan, Nia Vardalos

Why is it that we love to watch Chick Flicks? We love to see people fall in love and have a happily ever after. We love to see them fight and then dramatically or hilariously make a mends. I think it is because deep down inside we are all hopeful romantics. You heard me right, hopeFUL. We want a happy ending for ourselves, so we watch other people do it for us and hope it will come true for us. Indeed it can too, for me at least. 🙂

I have come up with my top 10 Romantic Comedies from this decade. Due the volume of all the great Romantic Comedies that have been made this decade I decided to pick the best of each year. So here they are:

1. The Wedding Planner
Starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey you can’t go wrong! Without giving away any details, I can truly say this is a great Romantic Comedy. There are some parts you fall in love with each lead character and then wonder what is going on, keeping you on your toes. This was made in 2000 making it the first of this decade on my list.

2. Someone Like You
Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear and Hugh Jackman make up this cast. I used to be able to completely relate to Ashley Judd’s character in this movie. How she is so pessimistic about men and her theories about cows. She changed her thinking when she fell in love with an unexpected man. You’ll fall in love with these people as they fall in love with each other. This was made in 2001 which made it number 2 on my list.

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
This was such a great surprise when it came out on such a small budget. This movie starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett was very well written and thought out. This has such a nice twist on forbidden love. Even though it wasn’t made with a huge budget it has great acting and will make you tear up! Made in 2002 this makes number 3 on my list.

4. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey light up this movie with their chemistry. She’s a writer and he’s in marketing. She is trying to make all the mistakes that women make in the beginning of relationships. All the while he’s trying to make her fall in love with him. This is an adventure of love and laughs made in 2003 making it number 4 on my list.

5. Little Black Book
The late Brittany Murphy starred in this movie that dissects her man’s infamous “Little Black Book”. She finds herself meeting people and finding out things she never needed to know. Will she still want her man? Will he find out she is snooping in his book? Find out when you watch this cute movie made in 2004, number 5 on my list.

6. Monster-in-Law
Ok, we have all heard about mother-in-law horror stories, right? This is on you can’t miss though. She finally found the perfect guy and is going to marry him. Then she met his mother, who is a piece of work to say the least. Makes for an interesting flick. Starring Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda and Michael Vartan. Made in 2005, so it’s number 6 on my list.

7. The Holiday
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet both star in this movie as women who have it altogether in their careers but not in their personal lives. They switch houses for a holiday and come along some surprises along the way. You will find yourself laughing and crying at the same time. Also starring Jude Law and Jack Black. Made in 2006, it makes number 7 on my list.

8. Enchanted
This is a whimsical story starring Amy Adams and McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey). Starts out as an animated film, not for long though. After a tragic fall Giselle finds herself in a strange place and not animated any longer. Along the way she meets a single father and his daughter. Her prince is trying to find her throughout New York but not without having his own problems along the way. You will fall in love with Pip a little chipmunk who is very intelligent. With a little bit of every fairytale you will love this romantic comedy of 2007–number 8 on my list.

9. 27 Dresses
Katherine Heigl is always a bridesmaid and never a bride–well till the end of this adorable twist on a plot. Just remember things aren’t always as they seem, especially at first sight. People will surprises you throughout this movie and you will love the journey! Also starring James Marsden, Edward Burns and Malin Akerman. This was made in 2008 and makes number 9 on my list.

10. The Proposal
Ok, I truly love all the movies on this list or else I wouldn’t have put them on here. Seriously though, I love this movie!!!!!! Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds make a great team and couple in this adorable chick flick! There are so many favorite parts I could go on, but I won’t. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t both renting it, just buy it! You’ll love it!!! Just made in 2009 this is number 10 on my list of movies of this decade.
