Earlier I generated a list of my top 10 horror movies of all time. Now, I’m going to give you my list of top 10 comedies of all time and explain why.
10. The ‘Burbs – For those whom are Tom Hanks fans know this film and have probably watched it several times through the last couple of decades. The younger generation may view Hanks as either a boring/serious actor and have only seen a handful of his films like Forrest Gump. What they don’t realize is Tom Hanks is a comic genius. His timing is fantastic and whenever he raises his voice in an almost high pitch squeal, it’s enough to make anyone laugh.
9. Clerks II – This film, in my honest opinion, was so much better than the first one. Once again the moral compass was turned off and went as far as dragging a racially demeaning terms, the approach was funny- you just have to see it to know what I’m talking about, and a battle of Stars Wars versus Lord Of The Rings into it (spoiler alert! Star Wars wins).
8. American Pie – A tale about teenagers dealing with hormones. Sounds unique doesn’t it? Not really an original plot, but the execution was spot on and didn’t come across as being forced by the actors and actresses. For once Hollywood didn’t use a bunch of 30 year olds to play teens.
7. White Chicks – Who didn’t buy Shawn and Marlon Wayans as two white girls? This film was hilarious and the make up department really did a great job making them over.
6. Scary Movie – This movie makes me laugh to this day. Kennan Ivory Wayans is known for pushing the envelope when it comes to humor, or in this case gross and sick humor. Spoof movies are always stupid, which a lot of people say, but they’re supposed to be.
5. Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo – Didn’t care for the American Gigolo, so watching the sequel was the furthest thing from my mind. Out of sheer late night boredom, I decided to pick up the remote and get it from On Demand. I laughed so hard that I woke the wife and kids up. Eddie Griffin made this film what it was, and well; several of the off color humor as well. A must-see.
4. Corky Romano – This film allowed Chris Kattan to shine in the leading role and he did great! The funny part about it is that he plays a mobsters son and is made to do the family’s work by portraying an FBI agent trying to find evidence against his dad. You have to watch this movie... Or buy a boat.
3. Space Balls – A Star Wars spoof that couldn’t have been done any better. Mel Brooks is known for spoofing movies and just writing stupid driven films in general. This film is one of those that makes you laugh from beginning to end no matter if you watch it once or a thousand times.
2. Man Of The House (2005) – Tommy Lee Jones is well known for his comedic ability, but with his movie and of course Men In Black, he really proved to me that he’s not just another monotone. He can be an awkwardly funny monotone. Just seeing him alongside a bunch of college age cheerleaders is enough to make the most boring person chuckle.
1. Dumb And Dumber – Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels really paired off well in this movie. I remember being a freshman when this movie came out and laughing so hard that I made myself sick. Each time I watch this film, it has the same effect on me, nearly 17 years later.
