Imdb.com, Jamie Fox, Jodi Foster

Movies are made for entertainment and based mainly in worlds of fiction and fantasy. Fitting into these creative worlds are actors who choose often to be credited by names other than their own, known as: stage names. The reasoning behind an actor’s choice to go by another name ranges from a disliking of their birth name, to rules involving no two people being allowed to register the same name with the Actor’s Guild. Will Ferrell – John William Ferrell: Would Will Ferrell be Will Ferrell if he actually went by his first name of John? John gained a large following thanks to his work on Saturday Night Live, which helped in his crossover into having a very large and profitable movie career. Starring in such hits as Old School, Anchorman, and Blades of Glory John’s comedy star doesn’t seem to be fading any time soon and his amount of cameos in the projects of friends is also outstanding. He has been in many successful films and television programs fitting perfectly into his role on the CBS comedy Two and a Half Men.

Mr. T – Lawrence Tureaud: If you ask this actor and one time professional wrestler what his name really is he may give you his often quoted response of : “My fist name is Mr, my middle name is period, and last name is T.” I pity the fool that keeps bugging him about it and recommend they just go watch his performances in old reruns of the television series the A-Team.

Rip Torn – Elmore Rual Torn Jr.: Who hasn’t pondered whether or not this actor from Men in Black was really given the birth name of Rip Torn? Apparently the answer to that is no, with an explanation of the name being family tradition: every male in the Torn family gets the nickname of Rip.

Reese Witherspoon – Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon: Another star dropping some extra name-age from the front, she started modeling at the age of 7 and landed her first movie role in The Man in the Moon in 1990; playing a 14 year old teen in love with her sister’s boyfriend. Her star has done nothing but rise with roles in the Johnny Cash flick: Walk the Line and her popular performances in Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2. Her ex-husband actor Ryan Phillippe wasn’t mentioned previously on the list, but actually his first name for anyone still reading is Matthew.
