These are the top 10 animated children’s movies of 2006. These ratings are based on box office gross, user ratings at Yahoo movies, and other ratings sites. Two of the movies, Flushed Away, and Happy Feet are still playing in theatres. These two movies were rated based on their performance to date. They could rank higher on the top ten list by the end of the year.

10. The Wild tells the story of a band of animals led by a lion, who escape from the zoo in New York City. This film was released in April 2006, and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, who are well known for top ranked children’s animated movies. Starring the voices of Kiefer Sutherland, and Jim Belushi.

9. Curious George is the story of a curious monkey that likes adventure, but sometimes his curiosity gets him in big trouble. The movie was released in February 2006, distributed by Universal, and grossed over 58 million. The film stars the voices of Will Ferrell and Drew Barrymore.

8. Flushed Away was distributed by Paramount (Dreamworks), and grossed over 60 million dollars. A pampered pet mouse is flushed into the underworld. There he meets Rita, a street-smart mouse, and together they work to escape the grasp of the Toad, and escape the underworld. The movie features the voices of Hugh Jackman, and Kate Winslet.

7. Barnyard: The Original Party Animals, was distributed by Paramount, released in August 2006, and grossed over 72 million dollars. In this film you will hear the voices of Kevin James, Courteney Cox-Arquette, and Danny Glover. When the farmer goes to bed the farm animals go out to play.

6. Monster House, features the voices of Steve Buscemi, Nick Cannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Kevin James. Three children discover the neighbors house is really a monster. 4. Happy Feet , was released in December 2006, distributed by Warner Brothers, and has grossed over 121 million (and still climbing). Happy Feet is currently ranked number 4 on the top 10 children’s animated movies for 2006, but it is still number one at the box office, and may climb higher on the list. The movie features the voices of Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Hugh Jackman. Penguins pick their mates based on their heartsong. Mumble can’t carry a tune, but his feet love to move and dance. He is an outcast and sets out on an adventure of epic proportions. This film is full of toe tapping songs.

3. Over the Hedge, was distributed by,Paramount (Dreamworks), and grossed over 155 million dollars over the summer. This is Paramounts 3rd film in the top 10 children’s animated movie countdown for 2006. The movie showcases the voices of Bruce Willis, and Garry Shandling. The animals wake up from hibernation to find a hedge growing through their territory. A young raccoon named RJ appears, and convinces the animals the human world on the other side of the hedge is full of great things.

2. Ice Age: The Meltdown was distributed by, Twentieth Century Fox, and grossed over 195 million dollars. It the long awaited sequel to the children’s animated movie Ice Age, and well worth the wait according to the box office gross, and the ratings. It features the voice of Ray Romano as Manny the Mammoth. The characters from Ice Age return, Manny, Sid the sleuth, Diego the saber-tooth tiger, and who could forget Scrat, the prehistoric squirrel? A huge glacier dam is about to break and flood the valley the friends live in. The animals only chance for survival is to escape to the other end of the valley. Ice Age: The Meltdown is the story of their journey.

1. Cars was distributed by Buena Vista, grossed over 244 million dollars, and was rated G. It was easily the top rated children’s animated movie for 2006. The movie features the voices of, Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Richard Petty, and Cheech Marin. Hotshot race car Lightning McQueen finds himself stranded in Radiator Springs, a small sleepy town that has seen better days. Through his adventures he finds out winning races is not the most important thing in life.

These are the top 10 children’s animated movies of 2006. Cars is also ranked as one of the top 50 movies for box office gross of all times.
