When I first heard of the “Sky Bar” I thought it had to be a bar within a high-rise building. I had never heard of it before, and it only made sense in my mind. But as was further explained on the Food Channel television show I was watching, the Sky Bar was a candy bar that had been really big back in the late 1930’s and into the 1940’s. Produced by the Necco Candy company, it had its place among the elite of the candy world, but came across some hard times later on that caused the production to become far less than it once was. Now the only way to purchase these candy bars is to live in an area very close to where they are produced in the East, or to order then online from the manufacturer stores themselves. They sounded so good to me, that I added it to a wish list of Christmas presents that I had created for myself.
Now I had no idea they could be attained over the web, and a friend of mine went about researching them so as to provide me with a great surprise present. Well when I opened up a present from them, it turned out to be 10 Sky Bars neatly stacked in a little cardboard box. I was amazed that she was able to find them, and it truly was a great surprise, because it was something I had put out of my mind, and was very grateful to be able to receive them. The Sky Bar is simple looking enough with its yellow packaging and red lettering written across the bar. On the bottom of the wrapper is a picture of the candy bad with its contents shown. Those contents are what truly make it a great candy bar.
The originality of the Sky Bar, comes with its 4 different sections of chocolate that each contain something extraordinary. The four distinct flavors are fudge, caramel, peanut and vanilla nougat, which are given in each of the bars. So you basically are getting 4 different sections, that each give you a different flavoring. I think it is really cool, because you don’t get bored eating one bar, because you are in for a different treat with each block that you finish. That was one of the biggest draws that got me so interested in the Sky Bar in the first place, and it really won me over the second I started eating one of them. The flavors don’t blend together, and are kept very static in the walls of chocolate placed around them. Eating through one bar, you then move to the next one, enjoying each flavor as you get to it. It is an experience in itself just getting to eat each bar.
The bars are a little more than you would pay for a grocery store candy bar (Snicker, Milky Way etc.) but it is well worth it. You can get 12 of them for around $14.00, and they travel pretty well on delivery. They are only available from September through May anyways, so you won’t have to worry about them getting over-heated in some transit stop. Each candy bar weighs 1.5 ounces, and I can tell you from my own taste tests, that they are simply delicious. Not only are they tasty, but I think they are a lot of fun to eat because of the variety of tastes that you get out of one candy bar. They only have 190 calories in each of the bars, so you aren’t going to have to worry all that much about that either. If you are looking for an interesting treat for yourself, or one to surprise your friends with, this is a great option. I have now bumped them up my list to #1 as my favorite candy bar, and I just had to come rave about them.
