The House of Blues Gospel Brunch – Orlando

House of Blues Gospel Brunch

By Rhetta Peoples

Ok, I confess. There were many days that I sat in church on a first Sunday, hoping and praying the communion cracker would instantly turn into a big basket of biscuits. As long as it takes the preacher to get to the point, I know I’m not the only one. Recently, I decided to attend the House of Blues Gospel Brunch here in Orlando and I was amazed at what a great time I had. Of course, it can’t take the place of church but it’s sure to get you faithful bonus points and a full stomach. Prior to this brunch, I’ve never really been a “brunch-kinda” girl. I like to eat as soon as I roll out of the bed and that’s typically early. I also don’t like for my meals to run into each other and quite frankly, I may be one of the only people who cannot grasp the concept of fried chicken alongside a plate of syrupy waffles. Nonetheless, this brunch made a believer out of me. No pun intended. When I walked in my eyes were immediately drawn to the long southern style all you can eat buffet that ran horizontal to a sizzling omelet station. The buffet was complete with shrimp, scrambled eggs, homemade waffles, honey baked ham, roasted top round of beef, an assortment of desserts and so much more.

Once I pulled myself away from the buffet tables, I realized there was actually a show getting ready to start. This brunch came hand in hand with all the best in southern gospel music; tambourines, church choir robes, singing and shouting all determined to tear the roof off of the place. When the show started, I was surprised at how interactive it was. The choir invited people on stage and also sang happy birthday to those celebrating.
