First Communion Flower Choices for Little Girls

Communion, Corsage, Corsages, First Communion, Gardenias

First Communion is one of the most important sacraments in the life of a young girl being raised in the Catholic Religion. The first time the body of Christ is received, preparing to make the sacrament of First Communion begins a year before the sacrament is scheduled to be received. Not only does the child prepare for First Communion, the parents of the child receiving the sacrament have much to prepare for as well. In addition to assisting the child with their Catholic education and studies, a party for family and friends following the Church Mass is traditional. With many details for the ceremony and party to be attended to, I hope this article will assist parents of little girls making their First Communion to easily decide on what flowers to include in their daughter’s First Communion celebration.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: White Roses. Little girls making their First Communion traditionally wear a headpiece with their First Communion dress. If you have decided against a veil, a flower headpiece is a lovely choice. Miniature white roses bobby pinned in your little girl’s hair or affixed to a white headpiece looks absolutely beautiful. Many churches discourage little girls making their First Communion from carrying anything in their hands, including small flower bouquets as they are distracting during the Mass and are easily left behind. Ask your local florist to create a lovely and small wrist corsage with white roses for your daughter to wear with her First Communion dress. A vase of white roses will make a stunning and lovely table centerpiece at your First Communion party.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: Gerbera Daisies. Both of my daughters wore a ring of Gerbera Daisies in their hair when they made their First Communion. Lovely, subtle and very pretty, Gerbera Daisies are a perfect choice for First Communion Headpieces. After purchasing a bouquet of fresh and fully opened Gerbera Daisies, I simply snipped off a few and used bobby pins to pin a ring of flowers in their hair. I used the remaining flowers to display on the main table at their First Communion celebrations.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: Carnations. Carnations are a lovely and traditional flower that is very versatile. You can ask your local florist to create a headpiece, wrist corsage or table centerpiece for her First Communion Day using carnations that are all white or white and tinged with pink on the edges. While you may feel that carnations are simply too large for your daughter to wear in her hair as a headpiece, they are perfectly appropriate for a table centerpiece or wrist corsage.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: Gardenias. Gardenias are lovely, exceptionally fragrant and a very feminine flower. Imagine how grown up and beautiful your little girl will feel wearing Gardenias on her First Communion Day.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: Baby’s Breath. Baby’s Breath is lovely and dainty and makes a beautiful filler for First Communion flower arrangements. After using your main flower choice for your little girl’s headpiece, use Baby’s Breath to fill in the gaps in between. Request that your local florist use sprigs of Baby’s Breath to surround the main flowers of your daughter’s wrist corsage. Fill out the vase of your First Communion centerpiece with an ample amount of the lovely and simple Baby’s Breath.

First Communion Flower Choices For Little Girls: Sunflowers. While I don’t think that sunflowers are an appropriate choice for headpieces or wrist corsages for little girls making their First Communion, sunflowers do make an excellent table centerpiece. The brightness, beauty and promises of new life and beginnings makes this flower a wonderful choice to include in your little girl’s First Communion celebration.
