Jazz & Ribs Festival – Columbus, Ohio

Diana Krall

Who says jazz is only for romantic couples enjoying their candle light dinner in a five-star restaurant? And who says Michael Buble or Diana Krall is not a good fit for your BBQ party? For the last 32 years, Columbus Jazz & Festival has proven that jazz and ribs can go hand in hand pretty nicely. This year, the 33rd annual Jazz & Ribs Festival is coming again, and what could be a better way to celebrate summer than listening to cool jazz music, while ravishing some finger-lickin good ribs.

Take note all. This year festival is on Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22 from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., except Sunday from 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Most of your favorite ribs vendors are going to showcase their prowess in making the “Best Ribs,” and some of the best local jazz artists are going to entertain you at three different stages. Located in downtown Columbus along the Arena District along Spring & Long Streets, McFerson Commons and North Bank Park, there is no admission for this festival so make sure your families and friends are in the know of this event.

There are lots of parking spots available, so worry not. You can park around the Arena District, and get a street parking if you are lucky. If not, parking garages and surface lots are always available at a pretty decent rate.

Beware, lines at the ribs stand can be overwhelming though, especially at some of the most favorite one. If you were pretty time flexible, coming after lunch time would save you much of the frustration. The line is shorter, the sun is not crazily hot and there is a higher chance you will get a nice spot on the green to enjoy your ribs and jazz. Last year winner is Blazin’ Bronco BBQ from Florida so you might want to watch for them. Bring enough cash too, because most vendors do not accept credit card.
