Let’s face it. When it comes to looking great and losing weight, we will try just about any diet out there as long as it promises great results and fast. The 3 day diet promises just that. If you don’t like to measure or stick to a strict eating plan, this is not the diet for you. If you want to drop 10 pounds by the weekend, this is the diet for you. The 3 day diet has actually been floating around since the 1980’s. There are various names for the 3 day diet. Just a few of the names I found are the fax diet, the Army diet and the Navy diet. Personally, I would call it the ice-cream diet since you can actually eat ice cream on this diet.

How Does the Diet Work?

This diet is based on specific foods that work together to boost metabolism and help burn fat. The foods in the diet when combined together cleanse the body, amp up energy levels and lower cholesterol. There is no formal documentation or book that provides the actual reaction that occurs or why the foods create the reaction described in the diet plan. You are allowed to eat about 1,000 calories a day on this diet.

How Long Does the Diet Last?

As the name suggests, the diet lasts 3 days. You can do multiple rounds of the 3 day diet, but you have to eat a normal, healthy diet for about 4-5 days in between each 3 day diet round. This is to prevent your metabolism from slowing down and going into starvation mode or fat storing mode.

How Much Can I Expect to Lose?

You can expect to lose up to 10 pounds by the end of the 3 days.

Eating Plan

Day 1

Breakfast: coffee, ½ grapefruit, toast with peanut butter. Lunch: black coffee, ½ cup tuna, 1 piece toast. Dinner: 3 ounces lean meat, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, 1 cup regular vanilla ice cream.

Day 2

Breakfast: Black coffee, 1 egg, ½ banana, 1 piece toast. Lunch: 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna and 8 saltine crackers. Dinner: 2 beef franks, 1 cup broccoli or cabbage, ½ cup carrots, ½ banana, ½ cup regular vanilla ice cream.

Day 3

Breakfast: Black coffee, 5 saltines, 1 apple, 1 ounce cheddar cheese. Lunch: Black coffee, 1 egg, 1 piece toast. Supper: 1 cup tuna, 1 cup carrots, 1 cup cauliflower, 1 cup melon, ½ cup regular ice cream.

In addition to the above eating plan, dieters should drink between 4-8 glasses of water day.

Pros

You lose weight quickly and the food was easy and quick to prepare. The fact that it only lasts 3 days makes the low calorie diet more bearable. In between 3 day cycles I would recommend starting a healthy eating regimen with lots of veggies and lean protein to help augment your weight loss efforts.

Cons

Not necessarily a healthy way to lose weight. It’s fast and quick, but not really sustainable.
