Tanning Lotions for Less

Tanning Lotions

Many of us tan for various reasons whether it’s simply to relax, a 20 minute break from cell phones and schedules or a chance to work on a base tan for the summer so you won’t sunburn once you are outdoors. However, while it’s something we enjoy, it can be costly and it’s not very convenient during an economic time like this so I’ve offered some solutions to make tanning a little more affordable and easy. Most salons offer several products such as lotions, eye wear, body wash and moisturizers. These products assist by providing the best experience each time you tan and offer several different brands/styles best to fit each individual skin type. I certainly recommend trying out different ones to find the ones that work for you personally as I have. I’ve come across many websites that offer the same lotions promoted at the tanning salons but at much lower and attainable prices. Some even offer free shipping! Here are a few sites to check out so feel free to browse until you find the one for you!

More helpful ways to better your experience for lasting tan:

1. Stay away from lotions on ebay or amazon.com as many people may end up with lotions that are outdated and do not work as effectively as newer ones.

2. If you ever have the opportunity to converse with the employee at the tanning salon, please do! Most are very helpful and can offer great advice or suggestions to reach an effective tan. Many are trained before working with their clients and are more than happy to share their own personal advice or recommendations.

3. Please always wear your eyewear! Perhaps it’s not attractive to have obvious white circles around your eyes but protecting them against the UV rays is one of the best things you can do! (even with your eyes shut your eyelids are extremely thin and do not provide the necessary protection needed) My suggestion is to begin by gradually tanning in short increments and switching from indoor to outdoor tanning often. This allows you to derive a natural tan from sunlight without the rings around the eyes and still preserve the protection from the UV bulbs.

4. Girls, this one is for you! When we shave our legs, many of us notice a difference after using a razor. In most cases, the razor strips away the tan pretty instantly leaving our legs a lighter color than the rest of our body. A great way to prevent this from happening is using a “tan extender” as a shaving cream! Many salons offer a body wash that allows a longer life for our tans even when we shower. Using this as a shaving gel allows us keep that beautiful tan we’ve been working on!

5. Want to save even more money?! The moisturizers offered online are amazing and many offer the benefits of a long lasting tan as well, however, it can become pricey if you’re pairing up the costs with the tanning lotions. A great way to keep the same results is to use Cocoa Butter! I’ve found the same fantastic, life extending tan results by applying Vaseline Moisturizing Cocoa Butter lotion (or Equate works great as well!) and pairing it up with Baby Oil Gel. The oil helps “lock” in the moisture and provides a healthy looking radiance to your legs.

6. Switch lotions every 3 of 4 days. At first your skin should build up to a fabulous color but even the best of us have skin that will plateau after awhile. This simply means that our skin builds a tolerance and has reach it’s maximized potential so to maintain or improve it even more it’s very effective to switch up the lotions every few days to keep the skin adjusting.

Once again, each of us are individual and there are many different ways our skin develops tans. Talking to the salon employees, trying out different lotions and experimenting with different moisturizers will help aide in discovering what works best for you!
