Sweet Home Made Ice Sun Tea

Sun Tea

Summer is sometimes a time of heat and thirst. Tea is a cheap and easy drink to make. All we need to make a galleon of tea is a jar and tea bags. Sugar is optional but in this article I will include it. I prefer splenda because it taste just as good if not better than sugar.

The correct amount of ingredients is the trick to a tasty tea. This also depends on the water you use. If you got that egg water, the tea is still going to have the taste of it. So getting some fresh filtered water will help with the taste.

For one galleon I like to put in four tea bags. Not all tea companies make tea equal. There are differences from one brand to the next. When making tea you can look at the transparency to see how strong you have it.

To make the tea just fill up your jug with fresh water. Make sure the jug gets rinsed out even after it had the tea. Put four tea bags into the jar. It is helpful to hag the labels over the lip of the jar. This makes it easy to get the bags out. You want to put the lid on the jar, because we are going to set it outside. That depends on your living situation, but either way the lid goes on the jar to keep out dirt.

Now all you have to do is set the jar in direct sunlight. Take note of shadows because as the sun moves the shadows move. I have not timed my tea making, so unless you know you have to keep checking the jar. You may even be able to stop the tea making process at your desired level of strength. When you think your tea is done be sure to get the tea bags out. The longer they set in the more tea strength is in.

So now the tea is done. While it is still warm put your sugar in. The energy will help your sugar mix in with the tea. I use one cup of sugar or splenda for one galleon. I know that some people want a lot of sugar. This depends on your taste. Being able to customize the amount of sugar is a good reason for making the tea yourself. That and knowing what is in your tea. I never had ice tea give me heart burn until buying the bottled stuff.

If you want some orange or lemon flavor. You can cut up a lemon or orange, and stick the slices in the jar. For lemon just some slices, but for orange usually a whole orange.

Here are the ingredients;

One galleon of water,

Four bags of tea,

One cup of sugar.

And also a cut up orange, or some lemon slices.

Now you can do some yard work, or come in from a job and have some ice cold tea. Here is an idea about work. You can set this tea out in the morning before you leave for work, then when you come home it will be ready for the sugar and you.
