Spring 2009 Fashion Trends: Women’s Shirts

The runways were full of bright, cheery fashionable frocks for the Spring 2009 season, probably in an attempt to end the dismal downturn our country’s economy has taken. Different trends were evident for women’s shirts, but five standouts had the most appeal and are sure to be popular spring fashion trends for 2009. Here are the five top trends for women’s shirts for the spring 2009 season.

1) Fringe

Fringe is on everything this season from handbags to dresses, but especially on women’s shirts. Arden B’s ombre fringe tank is a perfect interpretation of Spring 2009’s runway fringe. To keep the fringe fresh and not flapper-esque, put away that long strand of pearls. In fact, don’t wear a necklace at all. Here’s a great tip on how to wear fringe from Life & Style magazines’ January 12th issue: fringe is a good detail for highlighting certain features. This means the fringe on a woman’s shirt best complements her neck, collarbone, and “the girls”.

2) Plaid

The Spring 2009 runways took this trend from frump on the farm to chic in the city. Plaid isn’t for Western movies or lumberjacks anymore! This print on women’s shirts has taken a turn for the better by appearing in unexpected colors and new shapes. Lulu’s Derby Girl top gives plaid a makeover in purple and teal. The checkering on this women’s shirt is also way, giving the fuddy duddy print a hip, abstract vibe.

3) Muted Florals

This season’s florals are less graphic and more muted, as if hand-painted with watercolors. For Spring 2009, pair your muted floral women’s shirt with a pastel-shaded cardigan and metallic accessories. A cute, affordable idea would be Delia’s Amelia tank.

4) Jeweled Details

There were jeweled necklines shown in practically every runway show for Spring 2009. Women’s shirts were given a luxe look with intricate, jeweled patterns dotting the decolletage. Bebe’s Turquoise Stone Neck silk top is a perfect addition to any fashionista’s wardrobe as well as a great take on Spring 2009’s jeweled shirts and dresses. Bebe’s turquoise stone neck silk top in white would look fresh for spring and could glam up jeans for a night-out look.

5) Ruffles

Bringing a romantic feel to the Spring 2009 runway shows, ruffles are a beautiful way to feminize a basic women’s shirt. Take a look at Alloy’s ruffle shirt, which comes in several colors and patterns. This women’s top is a great way to dress up jeans or pair with pants for work. Ruffles were shown in Spring 2009 collections with both shorts and pants. The opportunities for enviable ensembles are endless!
