Baby Food Jars, Soy Candles, Wax Candles, Wicks

Are you always out buying soy candles and spending loads of money on them? If you are, I would say it’s time to stop and start making your own soy candles for a lot less money so you can have more soy candles to burn that last so much longer.

Making homemade soy candles are very simple and easy. Did you know you don’t even have to go buy jars to make your soy candles in and that you could make a perfect sized soy candle using recycled baby food jars? Did you know you could make scented colored soy candles in the microwave in less than 3 minutes? Well you can, and all you need for materials are; cleaned out baby food jars, medium candles wicks, candle dye, scented candle oils, a large bag of shaved melting soy wax, a plastic measuring cup, a glue gun, a bag of glue gun sticks, a spoon, and a microwave.

If you are not sure where to find candle making materials, you can find them at local craft stores such as; Ben Franklins, A.C. Moore, Michel’s, or department stores such as, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. The price range for the material you will need to make the soy candles with is in between twenty five to thirty dollars possibly forty maximum.

Now in order to make these lovely soy candles, you will need to make sure your baby food jars are all cleaned out and ready to be used. Then you will heat up the glue gun with a glue stick in it until the glue has melted inside the gun and is ready to be used. When your glue has melted and is ready to be used, take your medium candle wicks and place a small amount of hot glue onto the bottom of there metal tabs, and then stick the glued metal tabs down into the center of each baby food jar you have. Once you have the candle wicks hot glued into the center of your baby food jar, you will then need to let the glue dry and harden for about five minutes.

Now, while your glued wicks are drying inside of your baby food jars, you can then begin taking your bag of shaved melting soy wax and place two cups of wax into your plastic measuring cup, and then place the soy wax filled plastic measuring cup into the microwave for about 3 minutes, or until the soy wax is completely melted. When your soy wax is completely melted, then you can take a bit of your scented oil and colored dye and add a few drops into the melted soy wax and take a spoon and mix the oil and dye into the wax until it is completely colored.

After you have melted, scented, and colored your soy wax, you can then take the liquid colored scented soy wax and begin pouring the soy wax into each baby food jar until you have filled each jar three quarters of the way up. You do not want to fill your baby food jar all the way up to the top because you will not be able to light your candle. Once your baby food jars are filled with the liquid melted soy wax mixture, you will need to allow them to harden at room temperature for about eight hours.

Then when your soy wax has harden inside the baby food jars with the wicks sticking out a bit, you can the light them with a lighter or match and enjoy the light scented aroma and happy feelings the candle will give you. You will then have made microwaveable soy wax candles out of baby food jars, and will have made many of them for when you have burned one soy candle completely out for half the cost of buying soy candles at a candy shop. When you run out of soy candles, you should have candle materials left over to make another batch of soy candles for your enjoyment and pleasure.
