Single Mom’s Review of Plato’s Closet

American Eagle, Plato, Plato's Closet, Used Clothes

Plato’s Closet, where used clothes, sorry, previously loved clothes are hip again, can save you money and help your child be “green”.

Plato’s Closet is a blessing in these tough economic times. They are a franchise company with a unique business model. Along the lines of one man’s trash is another man’s treasure I’d say, and they cater to both young men and women.

They sell name brand and designer used clothing, shoes, coats and accessories for the teen and young adult market, and they also purchase clothing that your child may have our grown. And as far as I know they don’t give store credits, strictly cash.

Our town got a Plato’s Closet of our very own, and right before school started which was great!

Our first outing to our new shopping haven was fabulous, I loved it and so did my teen and pre-teen. It is definitely NOT anything like when my mom would drag us to the Salvation Army thrift stores in New York City during the ’80s.

Plato’s Closet has cool displays, rockin’ music and trendsetting employees. They sell brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Donna Karen, Coach and Burberry.

And as my oldest son’s favorite stores are A&F; and American Eagle Plato’s closet was a great find for us. Now my son being in fashion doesn’t have to put me in the poor house.

On that first trip to Plato’s I was amazed when we went home having only spent less than $90 (the equivalent of 2 pair of jeans at American Eagle people). For that we brought home two pair of jeans, six shirts, a Jan sport book bag and an Abercrombie Hoodie. That just can’t be beat in my book.

And the gem of that trip? One of the shirts was a Burberry polo. Yeah, you read that right. So I Goggled it when we got home and it was $160 new, I couldn’t believe that I paid only $12 and my son was happy as a clam.

Since then we have been back numerous times and I introduced my 18-year-old daughter to it as well. They have taken friends with them and now it’s the cool new thing to see how little they spend on clothing. Go figure.

So from this parent, Plato’s Closet gets a big fat A+. You can visit their website at www.platoscloset.com and see if there is a store near you.

Happy Shopping.
