Sara Ramirez is Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Callie Torres-O’Malley

Orthopedic Surgery, Spamalot, Spin City

Sara Ramirez first made her presence on Grey’s Anatomy in the series second season as Dr. Callie Torres, a resident who specializes in orthopedic surgery. Ramirez’s role as the surface strong, curvaceous Dr. Torres caused much tension for the interns. She became the love interest of George O’Malley (played by T.R. Knight). It was clear the role took stellar talent and Ramirez’s acting style was most fitting for the role. Her ability to be feisty and insecure in the same episode is uncanny. Her acting abilities really shine through and have made Grey’s Anatomy even better than it was originally.

Sara Ramirez may be the most diverse of all the cast members of the hit television series Grey’s Anatomy. The Tony Award winner, born August 31, 1976, is a Mexican actress and singer. Ramirez was born in a Pacific coast Mexican resort, Mazatlan, Sinaloa. She was raised in San Diego, California where she graduated high school. Following high school, Sara was accepted into the prestigious Julliard School in New York City. At Julliard, Ramirez crafted her talent and trained as a singer and actress.

Following her training at Julliard, Ramirez landed a role in the 1998 Broadway production of The Capeman. Ramirez’s Broadway success continued and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle nomination for Best Actress for her stellar performance in the 1999 production of Fascinating Rhythm. Sara Ramirez’s Broadway career would continue as she went on to perform the Broadway production of A Class Act and the off-Broadway production, The Vagina Monologues.

Ramirez continued to appear in local and regional stage productions, in addition to her Broadway performances. She also starred in Monty Python’s Spamalot, where she earned a Tony Award in 2005 for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. She also received an award from The Outer Critics Circle for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

She has appeared in other shows to include: Law & Order: SVU, Third Watch, Spin City, Talk to Me, As the World Turns, and countless other unaired pilot episodes.

After finding success on television and Broadway, Sara Ramirez has made her way to the big screen. She appeared in the movie You’ve Got Mail as the Zabar’s cashier and again in Spider Man as the cop at an accident scene. Sara also made a brief appearance in Washington Heights and again in the Going Under.
