Review of the Body Shop’s Vanilla Spice Body Butter

Body Moisturizer, Body Shop, Fake Nails, The Body Shop

My daughter and I attended a Body Shop home party, and The Body Shop rep had a ton of products that she passed around, (while we were soaking our feet in a tub of hot water with peppermint oil!)

I love the smell of cinnamon, and other “Christmas” like scents, and so I fell in love with this body butter on the first whiff. It’s one of those scents that makes me go “ahhhh” when I smell it. My daughter, on the other hand, didn’t care for the scent at all – so what one person may love, another will not like. I couldn’t believe she didn’t like it, but to each her own!

Product Description

Vanilla Spice Body Butter comes in a generous container, 7.0 ounces to be exact. To give you a visual of the size of container, it is 4 inches in diameter, and 1 3/4 inches tall. The top screws off to reveal a thick off white colored cream. The lid claims that the scent is indulgent, warm and spicy. Indeed! I do feel like I am indulging when I am applying this cream, (err, butter) to my body.

The container doesn’t say if this body butter is for one particular area of the body, but the host of our party said it was an “all over body moisturizer”.

Personal Experience

After using Body Shop Vanilla Spice Body Butter for 6 months, I can say that I am hooked. I still have a half a tub left, because this goes a long way. It is so incredibly thick and rich, you don’t need very much to get the job done.

The only thing I don’t care for is the container. I would much prefer a cream in a tube or pump. The Body Shop does sell this scent in a pump bottle, but it claims that it is a “light” moisturizer. I am thinking that maybe the body butter products are too thick to work well in a pump. Either way, when I dip into the jar I always get some cream under my nails. This is one time I don’t appreciate my long fake nails. I always end up digging the product out from under my nails after I am done applying it. The show I attended handed out tiny spatulas to remove the cream from the container, so I guess I could use something similar … maybe a cotton swab, to remove the body butter from the “tub”, but I am always too lazy to go get one!

I love the way this body butter is easily absorbed into the skin, and how it makes my skin not only more hydrated, but much much softer. I often take turns using this at bed time (I also use the Almond Oil Intense Hand Rescue). Again, with the body butter, as with the Almond Oil product, I feel the need to wipe my hands with a tissue when I am done rubbing it in. It tends to be a little bit on the greasy side, in my opinion. But it’s not a big deal, the benefits of the cream are worth it! I am at the age where I have much dryer skin, expecially my hands … this body butter definitely helps my dry skin.

I love the scent, which remains on my person a while after it is applied. I do feel that this is one of the stronger scents in the Body Shop line, and it does interfere with my favorite perfume. Another good reason to use it at bed time.

Final Thoughts

I was really taken back by the price of this body butter, around $16 for the 7 ounce tub. I really thought that was quite high, but after seeing how long this cream lasts, it is worth it. I have a cabinet full of cheaper hand creams that I never use, so it’s worth it to me to spend more money and get something that I will actually use. I paid $16.00 for my container of The Body Shop Vanilla Spice Body Butter.
