Fragrance Review: Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Versus Victoria’s Secrets Vanilla Lace

Bath and Body, Bath and Body Works, Bath Body Works, Florals, Vanilla

While shopping at the local mall many women stop by both Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret for fragrance and body care items. Both stores offer many lovely fragrances in various products. Both Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret carry popular vanilla scents. Bath and Body Works carries Warm Vanilla Sugar while Victoria’s Secret carries Vanilla Lace.

Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar and Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace are lovely fragrances loved by many women. Both scents are safe gift choices for woman of any age who love vanilla or sweet scents. But the scents are very different from each other. Many women will love both fragrances, but some may prefer one over the other. Both fragrances heavily feature vanilla.

If you think all vanilla scents smell the same, you haven’t smelled very many vanilla fragrances. In the world of fragrance vanilla scents differ greatly from each other in each product line and even within each product line. Vanilla is not just vanilla, it can smell wildly different with a different feel and mood to each scent. Bath and Body Work’s Warm Vanilla sugar is warmer and more sensual than Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace which is softer and a more natural vanilla. Personally I love both scents.

Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar contains the following notes:

Top Notes: Sheer Florals, Vanilla Absolute Fragrance

Middle Notes: Basmati Rice, Coconut, Vanilla Absolute Fragrance

Base Notes: Vanilla Absolute, Heliotrope, Musk, Veltol, Sandalwood

The vanilla note is dominant over the other notes in Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar. This is not a vanilla extract or true vanilla type scent. It is a very rich vanilla, but not it is not “buttery” like Bath and Body Works’s Vanilla Bean Noel scent. Although florals are listed as a note, I don’t smell them at all. So women who hate florals can safely wear this scent and really shouldn’t smell any floral notes at all.

The coconut and rice notes in Warm Vanilla Sugar blend together with the sandalwood until each note isn’t perceptible by itself. These notes add a very sensuous rich depth to the fragrance as well as some sweetness. Warm Vanilla Sugar is a sweet scent, but not sickeningly sweet. Even women who normally don’t wear sweet scents, but like vanilla or foody scents may love this scent. The sandalwood and musk notes are very mild and not at all overpowering or masculine, again they simply blend into the fragrance itself.

There is a note in Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar that could be problematic for some wearers. I first tried Warm Vanilla Sugar in a lip balm with sunscreen. I loved the scent, but disliked what I thought was the waxy sunscreen like scent. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the lip balm or the sunscreen, it was the Warm Vanilla Sugar fragrance itself.

I’ve tried the Warm Vanilla Sugar scent in several Bath and Body Works products without sunscreen in them. They all have this note which I do not find in their other fragrance products in various scents. This note is not overpowering, but it is perceptible. The fragrance would be much nicer without this note. The best way to describe this note is to think of the smell of unscented sunscreen, that waxy, sunscreen smell. I’m not talking about the coconut or jasmine scent prevalent in many sunscreens, just the sunscreen smell itself.

Overall Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar is a rich, sensual vanilla fragrance. It should be pleasing to most women. I would recommend it as one of Bath and Body Works’s best fragrances. Women who like sweet, vanilla, gourmand, or foody scents should love Warm Vanilla Sugar.

Warm Vanilla Sugar would be suitable for any gift occasion for any female recipient of any age. But, you might be safer to give Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace over Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar. Vanilla Lace is a softer, more true vanilla and may appeal to more women than Warm Vanilla Sugar.

Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace contains the following notes:

Vanilla, Orchid, Amber and Musk

Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace is a somewhat true vanilla that is vaguely reminiscent of a sugar cookie with a hint of lemon. The lemon note (not mentioned, but it is there) is very soft and subtle, like a candied lemon, and fades down into nonexistence after the top notes. For those who dislike citrus or lemon notes, don’t let this scare you off. This scent is not lemony, citrus or sharp.

The floral note in Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace is not perceptible at all, so those who hate florals can still easily wear Vanilla Lace. Vanilla dominates the scent above all else. It is not a buttery vanilla nor does it have that “Bourbon” or alcoholic note like pure Vanilla extract. It’s actually one of the nicest vanilla scent’s I’ve tried. Vanilla Lace is far better than the plastic Competor Sud Pacifique line of vanillas.

Vanilla Lace by Victoria’s Secret is a safer gift choice than Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar, since Vanilla Lace is a softer scent. It would make a suitable gift for women and teens of all ages for any occasion. Even though it is sold by Victoria’s Secret, Vanilla Lace is not an over-sexy scent, so don’t let the Victoria’s Secret name scare you off. If you like vanilla, sweet or gourmand scents, Vanilla Lace is one to try. Like Bath and Body Works’s Warm Vanilla Sugar, Victoria’s Secret’s Vanilla Lace is available in a variety of bath and body products.
