Redefine Your Curls with Hair Rollers

Hair Rollers, Natural Hairstyles

Ever wish you had the gorgeous curls you see models and celebrities wear in magazines? You’re not alone. Many women covet the defined curls of these women. Guess what? Most of these women’s natural tresses are not that defined. These women get a little curl defining help and I’m not talking about Photoshop either.

Ways to Define Curls

There are many ways to get curl definition. Many styling products will help your hair’s natural curl pattern become more defined with less frizz and more shine. You can also manipulate your natural curl pattern and get defined curls that don’t follow your natural curl pattern.

Those gorgeous curls seen on celebrities in magazines and red carpet events are often the result of a stylist’s talents using a three-barrel curling iron. However, hair rollers are another way to get gorgeous curls but without the risk of heat damage. The trick is selecting the right roller type for the curls you want.

Hair Rollers for Rounder, Bouncier Curls

Ever wish you had those large, full S-shaped curls that bounced with each step you took? Try setting your hair in jumbo satin-covered foam rollers. Prep hair with mousse, setting lotion or an anti-frizz serum. Then start at the ends, roll hair up to half an inch from the scalp. For tighter curls use a smaller size roller. Leave rollers in overnight.

For a quick set, roll damp hair (post-wash or spritz hair with water) with large, smooth rollers and sit under a dryer. You will need hair clips to hold these rollers in place after you roll each section from the tip to the root. After you finished rolling your hair, sit under a hooded dryer for one to two hours.

Styling Tip: When you release hair from the rollers, bend over and shake curls loose. Bring head back up again and fluff with fingers at the roots and scrunch ends. Do not use a comb or brush as these will destroy the curl and create frizz.

Hair Rollers for Spiral Curls

Want cute springing spiral curls? Perm rods are the tried and true hair roller that will create those Shirley Temple Curls. You can use them on dry hair or do a wet set and sit under a hooded dryer. Flexi-rods also create smooth spiral ringlets.

There is a specific brand of hair roller or rather hair former that creates gorgeous spiral curls. Curlformers are becoming a rage amongst curly-haired women. These hair rollers are not exactly rollers but individual mesh sleeve twists. You wet your hair, apply a styling product and slip your hair inside the mesh twists using the styling hook. Let your hair air dry or leave in the formers overnight.

Styling Tip: After you release hair, finger comb gently starting from the root sliding down to the ends to create a spiral wave look.
