Review of Purina Fit and Trim Healthy Weight Adult Dog Food

Dog Weight, Fat Dog, Purina, Trim

Our beloved dog, Fezzik, had been enjoying Purina Healthy Morsels Dog Food for several years. As he got older, he started to gain weight and eventually got to the point where we knew he needed to trim down some. We started by making him exercise more, but the pounds were not coming off, so we chose to change his food. Since he had been using Purina brand food his entire life, Purina Fit and Trim Healthy Weight Adult Dog Food seemed like a logical choice for a weight management dog food.

We first decided to integrate Purina Fit and Trim Healthy Weight by mixing it in with Fezzik’s regular Healthy Morsels diet. At first, he picked through his food, eating only the Healthy Morsels, but eventually would eat the entire bowl of food. Once we got down to feeding 100% Purina Fit and Trim, Fezzik continued eating it, but not very joyfully. Where he used to beg for his food, as well as ask for extra food even after he was done for the day, he now would often let food sit in his bowl without touching it for hours. He did eventually eat his day’s worth of Purina Fit and Trim, but it was very obvious that the taste was just simply not as good as Healthy Morsels. I suppose this stands to reason considering it is a lower fat dog food choice.

After several weeks of feeding Fezzik a diet of only Purina Fit and Trim Healthy Weight, the pounds did start to come off. Fezzik is a Beagle Chihuahua (lovingly referred to as a Behuahua) mix and he was carrying 31.5 pounds on his fairly small frame. After several weeks of feeding Purina Fit and Trim, he was down to 28 pounds, a healthy weight for him, according to our veterinarian.

We were thrilled with the weight loss results of Purina Fit and Trim, but we knew the taste was lacking for our little dog. So we decided to add some Purina Healthy Morsels back into his diet. After only about a month of reintegrating the Purina Healthy Morsels brand back into Fezzik’s diet, he gained back a pound. It was apparent that in order to maintain his healthy weight, a diet of only the less tasty Purina Fit and Trim would be in his future.

Overall, Purina Fit and Trim Healthy Weight Adult Dog Food is a good choice for reducing your dog’s weight and helping him to maintain a healthy weight. Although it is less than fantastic tasting according to our dog’s taste buds, it does do what it claims to do. Since we want our little Fezzik to be around for a long time, we will continue using Purina Fit and Trim, simply rewarding him with some occasional dog treats rather than giving him a daily better tasting, but higher fat dog food.
