Back in my teen years I can recall when Pure Ice Nail Polish began to first hit shelves. They were all the rage, and sold for close to $8 a bottle. They were legendary for making beautiful bold colors, mostly metallic shimmer because it was popular as ever back in the late 90s.
I nearly forgot all about Pure Ice as I grew older, and graduated to more refined ‘adult friendly’ simple colors, like plums, nudes, and pinks.
About a month ago though while browsing for some new colors by Nicole, by Opi, I came across an old teen friend on the bottom rack. Pure Ice Nail Polish; still wearing the same casual yet cool square shaped bottoms. Initially I was going to by Opi polish, but after seeing that Pure Ice was going for less than $2.00, I could not deny it. For that price, I could buy 3 Pure Ice Colors, verse just 1 Opi color.
Up on the chopping block today is Strapless, which caught my eye above and beyond all of the other Pure Ice colors that were available.
In the glass square jar I was able to see how beautiful Strapless was, and the high beam blue glitter was what grabbed my attention first. The polish itself only looks blue, the color is actually a clear base, with tons of micro-flecks of shiny blue glitter swimming around inside.
Now when it comes to glitter nail polishes, it can be either a hit or miss. You could end up with lovely sparkling nails, or nothing but a clear base and a few specks of glitter due to the glitter not sticking to the brush and making its way onto the nail. I hoped with Strapless the blue flecks would actually go onto the nail, and not just sink to the bottom of the container while I was polishing.
Once home I went ahead and began to use Strapless on regular unpolished nails. The glitter does come out on the nail, but it is very light, and very thin. I had to use another coat to get the nail to look presentable, followed by another coat, and another. So 4 coats later, and finally my fingernails were drenched in the beautiful sparkling blue glitter specks.
Once the nail dries you will want to add a coat of clear polish on top of the nails because the glitter is a bit grainy feeling.
All in all though, even with the needed 4 coats, the results were pretty stunning, and how I had imagined them to be.
The second time I used Strapless I painted a coat of the glitter on top of a pink nail polish. I only needed 2 coats of Strapless in order to see the results. I liked it, a lot.
Another plus is that Strapless dries rather quickly, so you do not have to sit around waiting for your nails to dry in order to apply another coat.
Overall:
Strapless by Pure Ice goes well on top of just about any nail color. When used alone it also looks pretty stunning as well; only it requires more coats of polish to see the results.
For under $2.00, I feel I got myself a winner, and I would recommend this one to just about anyone.
