Review of Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal

Bran, Organic Cereal, Raisin Bran

I wouldn’t say that Raisin Bran cereal is one of my favorite kinds or anything but when I saw a box of Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal on sale I thought that it looked good. A fourteen ounce box of this cereal was on sale for three dollars and fifty cents. While this is a good amount of money for the amount of organic cereal that you are getting it is actually very quite reasonable. With a box in my shopping cart I finished up my shopping looking forward to trying this cereal when I got home.

The Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal looked slightly different from the standard Raisin Bran cereal that I remember. The flakes were lighter and the raisins slightly smaller and they didn’t appear to be coated in sugar like I remember in the other kind of Raisin Bran, and so I wondered if the taste would be different and I wondered what the ingredients were that differed. Well besides having organic ingredients there was a definite difference between this cereal and Kellogg’s Raisin Bran, which unfortunately contained high fructose corn syrup, and listed both whole wheat and wheat bran as ingredients while this cereal only listed wheat bran. The entire list of ingredients for this cereal are organic wheat bran, organic raisins, naturally milled organic sugar, sea salt, organic malted barley extract, soy lecithin and the following minerals and vitamins were listed, iron, zinc, vitamin C, niacinamide, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, vitamin A, folic acid, vitamin D and vitamin E. I thought that the ingredients looked very good and was eager to taste the cereal.

The Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal had a very nice texture and the raisins thankfully were not chewy at all and actually melted in your mouth. Despite being a hearty cereal it actually had a very calm tasted and tasted wonderful. I enjoyed the cereal very much, and I liked it much better than the Kellogg’s Raisin Bran cereal. One thing that I found about this cereal that was a drawback though was the fact that you had to eat it in a hurry if you didn’t want the flakes to become too mushy. The flakes in th cereal softened up in no time, while this really didn’t bother me all that much I can see how it would disappoint someone who enjoys a big crunch in their cereal. The amount of raisins in this cereal were in no way few and far apart but while eating the cereal I didn’t find them in every single spoonful that I had either. This did not bother me at all though. Happy with the taste, texture and ingredients of the cereal I wondered how the nutrition facts looked for this cereal.

In one cup of Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal there is one hundred and eighty calories with only ten calories from fat. There is three hundred and forty milligrams of sodium, which I didn’t care for , and two hundred and seventy milligrams of potassium, which I thought was good, in a cup of this cereal too. There are forty three grams of carbohydrates, fourteen grams of sugars, six grams of fiber and five grams of protein in the serving size of one cup of cereal as well. Not surprisingly this cereal listed many nutrients in the minerals and vitamins portion of the nutrition facts. It listed twenty five percent for iron, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6, zinc, thiamin and folic acid. It listed ten percent for both vitamin A and vitamin D, four percent for riboflavin and two percent for calcium. Again I wasn’t thrilled with the sodium content and I was disappointed in the amount of sugars but I wasn’t surprise about that either as raisins are naturally high in sugar and the cereal has added sugar. Otherwise though, I thought that every thing looked really good.

I am very glad that I tried Cascadian Farm Organic Raisin Bran Cereal. It is a cereal that I can see myself getting again. I would recommend for anyone who likes raisin bran cereals to try it out. I went through the box in less than a week, I believe that there were around seven or eight servings in the box but I tend to take more than a serving at a time. While the box did last I enjoyed it very much and am very happy that I decided to try this cereal out. Even though Raisin Bran wasn’t on my list of favorite cereals this one made a list of favorite organic cereals for me.
