Review: Mother Nature Dog Treats in Apple, Chicken, Turkey & Cheese!

Canned Dog Food, Dog Treats, Natural Dog Treats, Nutro

Two months ago my local pet store had a bowl of sample dog treats sitting by the cash register. The sales person told me they were a new snack product made by Mother Nature, and that they came in four different flavors, one of which is apple. They didn’t have them in stock yet, but were expecting them soon.

Today I returned to the store to purchase our Nutro canned dog food, and I asked if they received their shipment of Mother Nature Natural Dog Treats with the apple flavor, and they showed me the display.

Description

The dog treats come in a heavy duty, 20 ounce zip-lock bag, (they are also available in 20 oz., 4 lb. and 20 lb. package). The 20 ounce bag is colored red, and feature pictures of different breeds of dogs on the front, as well as the words “with chicken”, “with turkey”, “with apples” and “with cheese.

The top of the bag has a groove that allows you to easily rip off the top along the tear strip. That leaves a good 3/4 of an inch above the zip-lock closure, making this very easy to open and close.

About Mother Nature

The back of the bag has a short story explaining how the Natura Pet Products company began. This family searched for healthy treats for their own dog, but were unable to find any made with the ingredients they were looking for. They then purchased their own bakery and went into the business of producing top quality dog treats.

Many of their ingredients are purchased from local restaurants and bakeries, and their products do not contain any low quality ingredients. Natura desired to make an all natural, healthy pet treat that was also crunchy to help keep the dogs teeth and gums healthy. They guarantee that their biscuits and treats will taste like they were freshly baked.

Thoughts

Our Silky Terrier loves apples, and I need to buy her small sized dog treats and biscuits because she has a hard time breaking them up. These treats come in four shapes, a heart, donut, triangle and mini bone shape. It’s hard to identify any of the flavors by smelling the treats, although they do smell like a tasty biscuit with a cheese like scent.

The size is perfect for a small dog, they measure roughly 1 3/8″ in diameter, but are a little fatter than other treats I buy, just over 3/8″ in thickness.

When I gave my Silky one of the treats, she didn’t eat it right away. I think because it was a little thicker than she is used to, she had a harder time breaking it up. She spent the next 10 minutes carrying the treat around the house, looking for a place to “bury” it. I didn’t know where she was, but when I called her she came running from upstairs with the treat still in her mouth. She then broke it up into smaller pieces and started begging me for more. I gave her one of each shape, and she gobbled them all up. She really takes to these more than other brands we have been purchasing at our specialty pet store!

Our Silky is extremely fussy, and I have purchased dry dog biscuits that she refuses to eat, so this was a good sign. I also feel better about serving her a treat that isn’t loaded with inferior ingredients.

Like the Natura company, I too have spent time baking biscuits for my dog. I even have a mini bone shaped “cookie cutter”. It’s time consuming, and I have to freeze them because a batch goes moldy before we get to the end of the supply. Mother Nature Natural Dog Treats provide a high quality, home baked treat for our pet, at a fair price. This bag retailed for $4.39 and mine contained 125 treats.
