Renaissance festivals are a delightful journey back in time. Set aside your present day woes and travel back to a era before cell phones and cars.

Wisconsin will see medieval royalty, knights, wenches, dancers and musicians at the fantasy festivals around the state this summer. The largest Renaissance festival in Wisconsin is held in Bristol, in the southeastern corner of the state. In June pirates will invade Port Washington.

Bristol Renaissance Faire
July 5 – September 1, 10 am 7 pm, Weekends plus Labor Day
Kenosha, Wisconsin

Bristol Renaissance Faire is the largest fantasy festival in Wisconsin. The faire is a full day of entertainment that transports guests back to the days of Queen Elizabeth I.

Bristol Renaissance Faire has been transporting guests back to the Renaissance era since 1988. The festival is set on a 30 acre wooded site, which previously housed King Richard’s Renaissance Faire. Bristol has a permanent village of shops, pubs and performance stages on the rustic grounds.

Bristol recreates a day in the life of Elizabethan England. The story is built around a summer day in 1574. Queen Elizabeth visits the English hamlet of Bristol. Entertainment includes historically accurate reenactments and fictional scenarios.

The Bristol Renaissance Fare is marking its 20th Anniversary with a special season long Feast of Fooles celebration.

Costumed characters entertain on stages and on the grounds. Guests are welcome to dress in period costume to add to the enjoyment of the atmosphere. Queen Elizabeth and her Royal Court Parades through the village. Jousting knights on steeds battle in the fields.

Food and drink are plentiful. Dine on Renaissance fare, such as turkey leg and steak on a stick. The village market sells unique wares, such as jewelry,a rt, costumes, clothing, gifts, herbal oils and much more.

Bristol is in Kenosha County, just north of the Illinois/Wisconsin state line. Bristol is about 35 miles from Chicago. Tickets: Adults $18.95, Child $9.50. Children under 4 Free. Discounted tickets can be purchased in advance on thier website.

Port Washington Pirate Festival
June 6 – 9, Friday 6 pm – 11 pm, Saturday 10 am – 1 pm, Sunday 10 am – 6 pm
Rotary Park at the Marina, Port Washington, Wisconsin
The lake front of Lake Michigan in Port Washington will fill with pirates for this weekend event.buccaneers, Thieves, Scoundrels and Wenches will make merriment and mayhem. Entertainment will include Bounding Main, Jock Stewart, The Jolly Rogers, Midwest Knife & Axe Throwers, Reilly and River Valley Colonials Fife & Drum Corps. Spend you doubloons at the Thieves Market Place and dine at the Gruel Gallery.

Wisconsin Renaissance Faire
June 14 – July 13, Weekends 10 am – 7 pm
Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
Enter the Year 1347 where you can meet brave knights, traveling nobles and mischievous gypsies. Enter the past and see the dramas of long ago untold before your eyes. The Renaissance Faire is held on the banks of the beautiful Chippewa River. Tickets Adult $14.95, Child $4.95. Purchase tickets on line in advance for discounts.

Janesville Renaissance Faire
May 17-18 10 am – 7 pm

Cambridge Renaissance Faire
May 19 – 20, Saturday 1- am – 10 pm, Sunday 11 am – 5 pm
Ripley Park, Cambridge, Wisconsin
Admission Adults $5, children 5 and under free.

Woden Thor Medieval Festival and Joust
May 24 – 26, 10 am – 6 pm
LaFarge, Wisconsin
The festival will be held over Memorial Day weekend. Entertainment includes Knights of Valour jousting, storytelling, belly dancing, bawdy wenches and Celtic music. Admission $8.
