Renaissance Festival in Ohio are filled with costumed characters recreating medieval villages. The festivals are fantasy event that recreate a time in history hundreds of years ago. Ren-faires are days filled with fun and entertainment for the entire family.

Following is information about three festivals being held in Ohio this year. The Ashville Viking Festival is in April. The Great Lakes Medieval Faire is held for six weekends starting in July. The Ohio Renaissance Festival is held for several weekends starting on Labor Day weekend.

Ashville Viking Festival
April 26 – 27 10 am to 5 pm
The Viking Festival has three stages of entertainment, over 50 vendors and a historical time line. Ashville is 30 minutes south of Columbus, Ohio. A food donations is requested for admission. Food will be donated to Ashville Food Pantry. Entry donations will be accepted to help cover costs. The Viking Festival is free, but fans can help support the festival by purchasing the 2008 Valkyries Calender, found on the website.

The Great Lakes Medieval Faire and MarketPlace
July 5 – August 10, weekends, 10 am to 7 pm
Live the legend in a shaded theme park. The Medieval Faire recreates a 13th century village with continuous entertainment, artisans, rides,, interactive games and food. Costumed characters, villages, artisans, musicians and nobility stroll the grounds and interact with visitors. Guests ofter dress in period costume themselves, to add to the medieval atmosphere.

Brave knights joust on horseback, competing for the favor of the Queen. King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and the Knights of the Round Table will visit the village of Avalock.

Every weekend is a fun filled festival. Each weekend has a distinct theme, so each weekend is different. Following are the themes for the weekends of the festival.

July 5 – 6 A Mid Summer Knight’s Dream: Birthday Bash for Her Majesty Princess‘ Sweet 16
July 12 – 13: A Medieval Fantasy: Fairies, Unicorns and Men of Steel!
July 19 – 20: Pipes, Drums and Shenanigans with music, ales, kilts and Highland Games
July 26 – 27: Pirate Invasion: Pirates, Vikings & Warlords.
August 2 – 3: Roman Holiday: Wine, Romans and Togas
August 9 – 10: Barbarian Beer Blast

Admission: Tickets at the gate are Adults $17.95, Children $5.95. Tickets are discounts for advance purchases on th Internet. There are also weekend and season passes available on the Internet. Parking at the Faire is free. Pets are allowed. The Great Lakes Medieval Faire is southeast of Cleveland.

Ohio Renaissance Festival
August 30 – October 19 Weekends 10:30 am to 6:00 pm
Open Labor Day weekend.
Harveysburg, Ohio

The Ohio Renaissance Festival recreates 16th century England, with a full day of family entertainment. Hundreds of costumed characters entertain in nearly 100 shows every day. There are twelve stages scattered throughout the village. Jousting knights on horseback offer a sense of excitement. The Pirate Show is an action packed adventure.

Admission: Tickets at the gate $19.95. Purchase tickets on line for a discount. Opening weekend (August 30, 31 and September 1) tickets are 2 for 1, so admission is half price when you bring a friend. Parking $2. Harveysburg is southeast of Dayton, southwest of Columbus and northeast of Cincinnati.
