Renaissance festivals are fantasy events with costumed characters roaming village marketplaces. Ren-faires are interactive events that provide a full day of entertainment. Guests enjoy strolling outdoors while eating fair food and being entertained by different performers at every turn.

Relax outdoors while being entertained by actors, musicians, singers, jousting knights, dancers and comedians. Following are renaissance festivals in Minnesota this year.

Olde World Renaissance Faire
June 14-15, 10 am – 7 pm
Duluth, Minnesota

The Olde World Renaissance Faire present bits of history and lore from the years 1200 – 1700 in Europe. The medieval celebration is set among festive tent and flowing banners. the resident dragon, mystical unicorn, trade merchants and costumed characters add to the renaissance atmosphere. Entertainment include jugglers, musicians, minstrels, Celtic music, bagpipe and more.

Activities and games at the faire include the best patron costume contest, castle siege, hobby horse joust, maypole dances, royal steeds and other fun and frolic.

Tickets to the Old World Renaissance Faire: Adults $10, Children $8, Seniors $8, Children under 5 Free.

Minnesota Renaissance Festival
August 16 – September 29 plus Labor Day, 9 am – 7 pm
Shakopee, Minnesota

Minnesota Renaissance Festival is seven weekend of fun and frolic. Costumed characters from the Renaissance era The festival recreates a marketplace from medieval times. The marketplace attracts royalty, nobility, bawdy wenches, knights, jesters, belly dancers, minstrels and merchants.

Stroll thought the marketplace to select from the offering of unique items for sale. The Renaissance Festival is a good place to purchase unique Renaissance style jewelry, clothing, weapons, gift items, soaps, goblets and art.

Spending the day walking around is bound to make you hungry and thirsty. Fortunately there is plenty to eat and drink at the festival. Feast on fair food fit for a king while enjoying the Renaissance entertainment. Most of the food is fair food that can be eaten with the hands. Quench you thirst with beer, wine or soda.

Theme Weekends: The festival runs for seven weekends. Each weekend has a different theme, so there is a variety of entertainment offered over the seven week period. Following are the themes for the seven weeks of the festival.

August 23 & 24: Highland Fling
August 30, 31 & September 1: Royal Ale Fest
September 6 & 7: Irish Heritage
September 13 & 14: Wine Gala
September 20 & 21: Italian Carnivale
September 26, 27 & 28: “Sweet Endings” Chocolate & Romance

Shakopee is southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Tickets to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee are $16.95.
