Recipe: Skittle Vodka

Plastic Water Bottles, Skittles

Summer is almost here! What better way to enjoy your summer than with a fruity drink? Here are seven steps to making homemade Skittle flavored vodka. Warning: These drinks are only for those who meet the minimum age for drinking alcoholic beverages – this age varies by country.

You will need these items for the recipe:
One 1.75 liter bottle of vodka – any brand works, whatever you like
Five 8.5 ounce flasks or bottles – any type of sealable bottle works
1 pound bag of Skittles
Five empty plastic water bottles
A funnel
Five bowls
A measuring cup
Coffee filters

Step One: Separate the Skittles by flavor. Place each flavor of Skittles in its own bowl. You’re going to want about 60 of each flavor.

Step Two: Fill each of the five plastic water bottles with about 6 ounces of vodka. If you’re using more than 60 Skittles, remember that for every 60 Skittles you want about 6 ounces of vodka. The more vodka you use, the more Skittles you’ll want.

Step Three: Put the Skittles in the bottles of vodka. You can either give each flavor its own bottle of vodka or mix flavors. If you mix the flavors, just remember to stick with the 60 Skittles – 6 ounces ratio.

Step Four: Shake the bottles to dissolve the Skittles. The longer you shake them, the better. It’s also good to let them sit for a few hours so that they can fully dissolve. If you don’t think the Skittles are fully dissolved, either let them sit longer or shake them some more. They should be fully dissolved over night but you might not need that long.

Step Five: Place the funnel inside of the measuring cup with a coffee filter inside of the funnel. Next you pour the bottles vodka into the funnel so that the chunks of Skittles get filtered out. You’ll probably need to do this more than once. After you’ve poured the entire bottle in, if there are still pieces of Skittles in it, simply put a new filter in the funnel and strain it again. Be careful when pouring that the funnel doesn’t overflow. If the Skittle gunk is clogging the filter, simply use a spoon to move the gunk out of the way. Once it is sufficiently filtered, use the measuring cup to pour the vodka into the flask or bottle that you plan to use. Remember to wash both the filter and the measuring cup after each bottle so that the flavors don’t get mixed. Also, don’t reuse the filters with different flavors for the same reason.

Step Six: Once you have all your flasks filled, seal them and put them in the freezer. You’ll want to make sure that they get cold enough for your tastes. Your best bet is probably going to be to freeze them over night.

Step Seven: Serve. Since it’s pretty much pure vodka, it can be pretty strong. You can either drink it just like that, or you can mix it with other things to lessen the strength. Sprite, 7-up, cola, and fruit drinks all work. Enjoy!
