Product Review: Jet-Stream Oven by Nesco/American Harvest

The Jet Stream Oven by Nesco®/American Harvest® is a great tool to have in the kitchen. It cooks food evenly through the circulation of air, to produce healthier meal options. You can purchase the Jet Stream Oven® from the Nesco® web site at www.nesco.com for $149.95.

I chose to buy the JS-4000T Model Jet Stream Oven® by Nesco® for a number of reasons. The main reason was because I wanted to cook food in a healthier and more efficient way. The Jet Stream Oven® cooks food in much the same way as a conventional oven does, but it uses hot air to circulate throughout the food when cooking. With the Jet Stream Oven® you can do more than just bake food.

The Jet Stream Oven® comes with two different sized wire racks that are placed inside the oven on top of the round silver tray that comes with it. Once you place the wire rack inside the oven, you preheat it for 2 minutes and then open the lid. Then you place the food inside the preheated Jet Stream Oven® and set the temperature, time and fan speed. If you change your mind about the temperature, time or fan speed, you can easily adjust any of these by using the up and down arrows. Here is a quick menu guide that is provided on the lid of the Jet Stream Oven® for easy reference.

-Baked potato 20 minutes 4000F High fan speed
-Chicken breast 8 minutes 4000F High fan speed
-Fish/seafood 10 minutes 4000F High fan speed
-Steak sandwich 10 minutes 4000F High fan speed
-Pizza snacks 6 minutes 3750F Low fan speed
-Hamburgers 8 minutes 4000F Low fan speed

Another benefit of the Jet Stream Oven® is the fact that it can be used in place of a barbecue on a rainy or snowy day. Hamburgers, steaks, hot dogs, pork chops and other food that is usually barbecued can be cooked in the Jet Stream Oven®. The food will not have the same barbecue flavour as it would have over an open flame, but it will be cooked evenly and thoroughly in the Jet Stream Oven® as long as you choose the right time and temperature setting. The wire rack holds food well and the tray underneath catches fat as it drips through the wire rack.

A comprehensive 64-page recipes and instructions manual is provided with the Jet Stream Oven® to help guide you through assembly, cleaning and operating your new Jet Stream Oven®. It is very simple to use once you read through the manual and practice using it for yourself. When food has finished cooking, it is best to allow the Jet Stream Oven® to cool down before removing the wire rack and tray to clean. When cool, wipe it down, but do not use a metal scouring pad on the tray or it may damage the surface of the tray and lessen its future productivity.

The Jet Stream Oven® manual also offers advice on cooking convenience foods, which of the two racks to use and whereabouts on the rack to place certain food items. Sometimes when you use the Jet Stream Oven®, you will not need to preheat it, such as when cooking sandwich croissants or waffles. So bear this is mind when cooking food.

I would highly recommend the Jet Stream Oven® by Nesco®/American Harvest®. It cooks food evenly, it removes the need for deep frying and it does not require oil to cook food, which makes this a much healthier way to cook a lot of foods that are usually eaten deep fried or lightly coated in oil.
