The History of Nesco, from Nesco.com.

The Nesco Roaster first made it’s entrance in the early 1930’s, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at that time manufactured by the National Enameling and Stamping Company (Nesco). The manufactured pots and pans, farm accessories, buckets and other cooking accessories. The Nesco Roaster first made it’s entrance in the early 1930’s, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at that time manufactured by the National Enameling and Stamping Company (Nesco). The manufactured pots and pans, farm accessories, buckets and other cooking accessories About that time electricity was being experimented with. Wire was taken and wrapped around a double boiler and then plugged in, it got hot. A new idea was born. That is when the new “portable oven” was made.

Through time the company finally split, products went different ways. The Nesco Roasters were sold to several companies. And was finally purchased in 1981 by the Metal Ware Corporation, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, from the Hoover Vacuum Cleaner People. Nesco was finally “brought back home”. Metal Ware Corporation has a tradition of manufacturing electric cooking appliances of quality since 1920. Metal Ware was founded by the founder of Mirro Aluminum, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Metal Ware is now a 3 generation family business, with 3 operational plants along Lake Michigan, Wisconsin. I am proud to say that I was born and raised and live in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

I received my Nesco 6 Quart Roaster With Non Stick Cook well from my husband for Christmas a couple years back. We enjoy all of our crock pots and Roaster Ovens so much that he decided we needed a middle size roaster. The Nesco roasts, steams, bakes, slow cooks, use for soups. It is a convenient and a portable size for traveling and entertaining.

The exterior is white with a black cover, there is a black knob on the cover, and handles to carry the Nesco, temperature settings of 150 to 400 degrees, a non stick black inset (the inset has a curved rim that fits tightly over the Nesco roaster and comes with a cooking rack for healthier cooking. Easy to clean, has a heating element that provides even cooking. Can be plugged in to 120 volt outlet, and has 740 watts for cooking. I also received a instruction manual and cookbook. The Nesco does come with a 1 year limited warranty. Make sure you fill it out and mail it in.

The outside of the Nesco Roaster does get hot so remember to always use oven mitts and the handles. You can now get the Nesco Roaster in white, stainless steel or silver.

I am happy to say I have gotten a lot of use out of my Nesco. It is nice to have for just using at home, taking a dish to pass for family reunions or just get tog-ether’s We have used my Nesco also for wedding showers, opening gifts, potluck at church and other functions as well as use it at home just for making a meal. This roaster is the most versatile one I have.

I love to make pot roast with potatoes and carrots and homemade gravy as my roaster cooks so evenly. It is great for making chicken with potatoes and gravy, Chili, meatloaf, casseroles, German potato salad. I have even made applesauce, baked apples and Spanish rice with stuffed green peppers. We can make a dish at home and take along with us where ever we are going and it is hot and ready to serve when we get there. It has 4 small rubber feet which makes it nice for traveling. We either place it in the trunk or on the floor by the back seat of the car.

My mother had her 6 quart roaster oven for over 50 years just very similar to mine, although her white exterior yellowed over the years. If you take good care of your Nesco it can last a lifetime.

My husband purchased my Nesco 6 Quart Roaster With Nonstick Cook well from Fleet Farm for $50.00.
