Product Review: Coby 2GB MP4 Player

Emusic, Mp4, Mp4 Player, Video Conversion

Description of the product:

The Coby 2GB MP4 player looks like it will be a great product when it is first seen. This is what I thought when I spotted it at Walgreens and figured that I could use an MP4 player with a rechargeable battery instead of on that uses AAA – which happens to be Coby, so I thought this new one would be good. It comes in one of those huge plastic bubble containers. It looks like sleek little iPod which is good for those who love the design of the iPod, but it does not use the click wheel design. I thought that this would be a plus as I do not like the click wheel at all.

The packaging has the description on it. I was thrilled to find an MP4 player that used a rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery. This was one of my reasons for buying the player.

What the product promises:

The packaging of the player gives many promises. It is easier to list these promises than to write them in paragraph form as they are in a list on the product. Here are the promises on the package:

What the productoffers:

I took out the MP4 player and I was impressed with the design. I found the power button on the top and hit it. I was not expecting the device to power on because it was not charged. However, it did power on and showed me the “Coby startup screen” as well as how the buttons lit up red. It then powered off. I looked at it again just to make sure that I knew where all the buttons were and it seemed to be working just fine and needed to be charged.

I read the manual and it told me that for it to work at optimum performance, that the MP4 player needed to charge for 12 hours. However, it did not need to charge for a full 12 hours in order just to check if it would power on again.

I plugged the USB cable into the MP4 player and into my computer. The device was detected by my computer as it said it would be and it indicated that it was charging.

When the battery icon started to act differently than it normally did, I thought that it may mean that it was charged enough to power on the device. I read in the manual, but there was nothing there about the battery indication light. I tried to power on the device, but even after holding down the button for a full minute, it did not power on.

I tried resetting the device like it told me to do in the manual, so I got a pin and pushed the reset button. I tried powering on the device and it still did not work.

I let the device charge a few more hours. I once again tried to turn on the device, but it did not power on.

I decided that I would return the device the next day. It did not matter that it came with the video conversion software, the earbuds, 50 free songs from eMusic for a free trial, or a cleaning cloth. It was all going back because the Coby MP4 player did not work.

I then looked up information on the Internet and found that many other people had the same problem with any Coby MP3 or Coby MP4 players.

Is it worth it?

The Coby 2GB MP4 player cost $79.99 plus tax. The price seems pretty good being that iPods are extremely expensive. I figured that I would treat myself to this because I had gotten some money for Christmas from my Grandma Ruth.

However, it really is not worth the money at all. After all, it was returned to Walgreens for a full refund since the product did not work whatsoever even after instructions were followed. It is obvious that the newer Coby MP3 and Coby MP4 players with rechargeable batteries are not worth the price or the hastle.

Comments:

When I saw this product, I had an initial thrill that I would enjoy it. However, after finding that it did not power on after it was charging, I became very irritated with the product and was good and restrained myself from doing anything stupid so it could easily be returned. Do yourselves a favor and do not buy any Coby products. They are not worth the money, time, or effort.
