Old Wives Tales for Baby Gender Prediction

Baby Gender, Old Wive's Tales

Since I am so curious by nature, as soon as I am pregnant I want to know what the sex of the baby is. I can’t wait until I can go buy clothes or start planning the nursery. Since you have to wait usually until 18-20 weeks for your ultrasound, I was curious to see all of the old wives tales that were out there for predicting the gender of your baby. Here are the interesting ones that I found, and I am waiting to see if any of them will be correct.

If you are carrying extra weight around your hips and butt, then it is said that you are having a girl. Along with this, if you are carrying your belly all out in front, then you are having a boy. If you are carrying your baby more spread out in the middle, like a watermelon, then you are having a girl.

If you are carrying your baby high, then it is a girl. If you are carrying your baby lower, then you are having a boy.

If your feet are colder when you are pregnant, then you are having a boy. If you feet are not any colder than before you are pregnant, then you are having a girl.

If our baby’s heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, then you are having a girl. If it is below 140 beats per minute, then you are having a boy.

If your chest development has been dramatic in your pregnancy, then you can expect a girl. If your chest development has not been that much, then expect a boy.

If you are craving sweets and fruit, then you are having a girl. If you are craving salty foods and meats and cheeses, then you are having a boy.

If the hair on your legs is growing faster than it did before you got pregnant, then you are having a boy. If your hair on your legs is growing at the same rate as it did before, then you are having a girl.

There a couple versions of this test and the supplies that can be used for it. Some say use your wedding ring and others say a needle or a pin. You need to attach the ring or needle to a thread or a string of hair and dangle it over the mom-to-be’s belly while she is lying down. If the needle or moves in a circle then she is having a girl. If the needle or ring moves to and fro back and forth, then she is having a boy.

This old wives tale is a little insulting, but has been around for quite some time. If a woman is said to look worse when she is pregnant than she did before she was pregnant, then she is having a boy. If the woman looks better in appearance while pregnant, then she is having a girl.

Women who carry boys supposedly do not having as much morning sickness as women who are carrying girls.

There is a Drano test that is all over the internet that can predict the gender of the baby, but I do not advise doing it all. There is a strong chemical reaction that takes place with the Drano and I don’t think that inhaling toxic fumes is worth possibly finding out the gender of your baby, especially since it is just an old wives tale.

None of these tests or symptoms can accurately tell someone the gender of their unborn child, but it is fun to look at them and examine your pregnancy and see if any of them were true. So, where any of the old wives tales true with your pregnancies?
