NYX Glitter Eyeliner: Review

Eyeliner, Gel Eyeliner, Gel Liner, Nyx

When I was about 18, I created my own mini trend that I had not seen anyone else do… at least not round my neck of the woods.

I used to layer my eyes with black eyeliner, and then dip an eyeliner brush into liquid eyeliner… after coating the brush with liquid eyeliner, I would then dip it into a small pot of micro glitter that one would use for arts and crafts.

I called it my own glitter eyeliner. A few months later though shelves at my local Claire’s began filling with an easier concept. Glitter eyeliner. I liked it. I didn’t have to make it myself, I could now just use the packaged stuff.

Why I didn’t invent this ahead of time… I still kick myself…

Anyhow. The trend set, and nearly everyone had eyes lined with glitter. One problem though, they didn’t know how to apply it.

Most glitter eyeliners are nothing more than glitter in a sticky type of gel. Stupid gals would just line the gel to their lids expecting cool results. I will only say this once… in order for glitter gel eyeliner to work properly one must line the eyelid with a dark eyeliner first…and then coat the lid with the glitter eyeliner! Gez! Duh!

Years had passed and I stopped applying the glitter to my eyes. Not because I didn’t love the results, but because making it myself was messy and annoying…and because the shelves that were once lined with the glitter eyeliner no longer carried them.

It was a passing trend for me, till recently.

About a month ago I found a glitter eyeliner pencil at my local CVS. The results sucked, so I went online to see if I could find the old gel liners I had used as a teen. My search cam up blank… but led me to NYX Glitter Eyeliner instead.

NYX Glitter Eyeliner is basically the near exact gel liner I had used when I was a teen. Even the colors were exact. Seeing how I knew nearly all of the colors already, I went with one that I knew would look best, and from past experiences, blue glitter would shine much more brightly, without looking tacky like a gold liner or silver glitter liner. (Although the silver is very, very bold and pretty).

I bought blue, and waited for it to come to my house.

How Was It?

NYX Glitter Eyeliner worked like a wonderful gem for my eyes.

First I did my normal eyeliner routine. I added my usual cat eyes in dark black eyeliner. I then dipped the small brush that comes with the NYX Glitter Eyeliner into the jug to collect a decent amount of glitter, and applied to the black layer I had already applied.

Warning:

DO NOT BLINK! You have to let the gel dry, and it takes about a minute. If you blink, you will smudge…which means you will have to start all over again.

Results:

Retro is back when it comes to fashion. I’m not sure if glitter eyeliner will take off or catch on again… but I’m bringing it back. I cannot believe I stopped using glitter eyeliners. They bring out the eye without looking like a tacky mess.

Where To Buy:

I ordered mine at Cherryculture.com for only $1.50. This is a very fair price, seeing how other glitter liners would sell for around $5.00. Other designer glitter pencils will try and swindle you out of $22.00 and the results are not even recognizable.

NYX Glitter Eyeliner is recognizable if you apply it like I mentioned earlier.

Wearing NYX Glitter Eyeliner over black liner is sure to raise eyebrows, and suck in tons of compliments and “where did you get that eyeliner?” questions.

I highly recommend you try them, in any color. All show bold and beautiful results.
