NYX Cosmetics Review

Lip Products, Makeup Tutorials, Nyx, NYX Cosmetics

NYX, pronounced “niks”, is an affordable cosmetics line that sells everything from lipstick to false lashes. I discovered this brand while watching makeup tutorials on Youtube, before that I had never heard of it. I had no idea how inexpensive their products were until I researched the brand, I just assumed that because makeup artists uses them that it would be expensive.

My first NYX products were their jumbo eye shadow pencils. I’ve seen other brands carry something similar but I had never thought about purchasing it myself because I really didn’t think I would have any use for it. After many weeks and dozens of makeup tutorials later I figured, why not give it a try. The majority of my favorite makeup gurus use NYX’s jumbo eye shadow pencil as a shadow base to help make their light color shadows show true to color, and make dark colors really pop. I’ve also noticed that my colors stay vibrant much longer when I’m using a shadow pencil underneath. It does have a tacky texture to it and will crease so I would recommend using it on top of an eye shadow primer. The best way to use it is by applying it all over the eyelids, keeping it below the crease line and then gently rubbing it out, spreading the product to the rest of the eyelids. For just $3 you can try out several colors without breaking the bank. NYX is one of those brands that are hard to find, it’s only available online at NYX.com, cherry culture.com and at ULTA stores. I loved their jumbo eye shadow pencils so much that I decided to try out a few of their other products.

Another NYX product that I’ve heard so much about was their Doll Eye mascara. I will admit that at $10 it was a tad more than what I was use to spending on mascaras. Their Doll Eye mascara comes in three kinds, lengthening, volumizing and waterproof; I went with waterproof. At first try I wasn’t impress with the product and had considered returning it. I’m glad I didn’t because after a couple of tries I figured out that I had to brush my lashes with the wand a few times to get the look I wanted. I got the false lash look without the false lashes! The best part is that it’s waterproof, and unlike some waterproof mascaras it really is waterproof and smudge free. As much as I love my Maybelline Colossal mascara I hate that it smudges and every few hours I would have to make sure to clean around my eyes or I’d look like a raccoon. One of my favorite things about this mascara is the brush. The brush is curvy, narrower in the middle and curves out at both ends, it really does help make the application much easier. I’m no longer poking my eyes or getting mascara on my eyelids or the bridge of my nose trying to coat every lash. The downside to NYX Doll Eye mascara is that for being waterproof it doesn’t keep my lashes curled and doesn’t work perfectly every time.

The other NYX products that I’ve tried are their lipsticks and jumbo lip pencils. I absolutely love their lip products, not only are they only $3.50 each but they have a huge selection of colors to choose from. Both products have a very creamy texture and glides right onto the lips like silk. The color payoff is phenomenal. I don’t use the jumbo lip pencil as lip liner though, I don’t know how you would considering how big it is, instead I use it like a lipstick. Another thing I like about their lip products is that it keeps my lips moist. Many of my other lip products tends to get into the crease of my lips and dry them out, or worse, peel my lips, but NYX’s lipsticks and lip pencils keeps the moisture in. A warning though, some of the reds are very bright so choose with caution. On the plus side if you find that you don’t like their products for whatever reason and you bought it at ULTA you can return it.

Whether you’re on a budget or just love makeup in general, I would highly recommend NYX cosmetics and with their prices you can buy even more.
