Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser / Mask

Cleansers, Neutrogena, Pores

I have suffered from oily skin since I first went through puberty. It was awful, and if I did not treat it, the oily skin would then break out into oily and zitty skin. Not a pretty combo; not at all.

As time went by though my oily skin, went from oily to combination dry/oily. I my cheeks would dry out and flake, while my forehead and noise would shine like a bright light.

I could not rinse with anything with Benzoyl Peroxide, because it would dry my cheeks out even more…but it did help with the oily patches.

A few months ago I came across Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask, and realized I have yet to review it. So here goes.

My reasoning for purchase:

It was by Neutrogena, a well known company that made products that I had been happy with in the past. Not only that though the promise on the tube is what sold me.

The Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask not only can be used as a cleaner to clear blackheads and break outs, but you could also use it as a mask for deep cleansing and extra oil control.

I knew that using it as a cleanser would dry out areas on my face, so my main use was to use it as a mask, that way I could focus on my problem areas without disturbing my dry areas.

Appearance:

The cleanser/mask comes in a 4.6 ounce tube with a click up cap. The label on the packaging is sort of plain, lame, and boring to look at, but once you get up close and personal you can clearly read the name of the product which is of course Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask. The tube is primarily white with bold black writing that says CLEAR PORE on top.

My Use:

I of course wanted to use Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask as a mask. The directions stated to apply the mask to my problem areas using circular motions, and allowing the cream to dry for 5 minutes.

This sounded all too easy. I popped the top, squeezed out some cream and applied. The cream itself is an off white color and is relatively thick in consistency, and the scent was gorgeous, its clean and fresh smelling.

The cream was easy to apply even though it was thick.

I allowed my face to dry for 5 minutes or more and then I rinsed with mild water.

Results:

My face did feel extremely clean, and of course my skin was oil free afterward. However the true test is the test of time. Just how long would my face remain oil free?

The oil shine stood off of my face for about 6 hours. Not too bad. I would of liked it to last longer, but for my skin type this is decent. I have however used much better, longer lasting products, and therefore can only give this particular product 3 stars in the mask department.

Results when used as a cleanser:

I did not want to use Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask as a cleanser, but I went ahead anyway. I tried focusing primarily on my forehead though; avoiding my cheeks.

It worked somewhat, and worked up a decent lather. Rinsing off was easy, and my face was left feeling the same way it had when I had used Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask as a mask.

The oil shine kept at bay for 6 hours again.

Overall:

Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask is a 3 star acne/oil fighting product. It’s not terrible, it’s not great…it’s just okay.

Warning:

Those with extremely sensitive skin may want to avoid this one, especially if you intend on using it as a mask.
