Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator: A Harsh, Costly Product

Dermabrasion, Healthy Skin, Neutrogena

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is a new product that promises to decrease age spots, pore size and wrinkles. Neutrogena says that the Healthy Skin Rejuvenator will leave your skin healthier, softer and younger looking. This is a big claim for one little product. I have started to notice more wrinkles and line around my eyes, and I would love a product that would help me look younger. I decided I would try the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator and see if it lives up to its claims.

The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is a massaging system with one time use puffs that have a micro dermabrasion type effect. You attach a one time use puff to the massaging unit, wet it and cleanse your face with it. The system has two vibrating options low and high. This product is very similar to the Neutrogena wave power cleanser. The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is $36.99 and the refills are $18.99 for 24.

My first reaction when I opened the package I thought the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator looked like it would a great job of letting me have a at home micro dermabrasion. Once I opened the puffs, I noticed a very strong smell. It was a pleasant smell but I don’t usually like highly scented products for my face. I was surprised because I have used a lot of Neutrogena products in the past and they are usually very mildly scented. Using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator was very simple and self explanatory. After using it my face seemed very sensitive. My face was red it spots and I thought I might have been too aggressive with the vibrating massage.

I waited about a week to give me face a chance to recover, and tried it again. The second time I used it I was very careful to be very gentle and only use the lowest setting. My face still got quite red, and was very sensitive. I go in for professional facials so I know what kind of redness is normal after a treatment, and this was beyond that. I don’t usually have sensitive skin, but my skin reacted very badly to the product. I could only imagine what it would be like for people with sensitive skin.

After using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator I was discussing it with a friend when she told me about the Neutrogena Wave Facial Cleanser that she just bought for her daughter. The two products are very similar, with the Neutrogena Wave being aimed an younger girls and the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator being aimed at older women fighting the signs of aging. When I looked at the two products they were almost just a like with only a few small differences. It also seems that the cleanser pads for the Healthy Skin Rejuvenator might be formulated for fighting the signs of aging. The thing that shocked me the most is that the Neutrogena wave was less then half the price of Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator. The Neutrogena Wave sells for $12 and the Refills are also much cheaper. I really wonder if the formulations are that different or does Neutrogena just know that teens and young women have less money to spend on facial products?

This product would be OK for some people looking for a micro dermabrasion to do at home. But I think most people will need to be very careful that the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is not to harsh for their skin. I think almost $40 is a lot to pay for this product when Neutrogena is offering a very similar product for less then half the price. I won’t be using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator that I bought unless Neutrogena comes out with another kind of puff for more sensitive skin.
