Restaurant chains across the country have embraced the vegetarian diet. Prior to that, waitresses may say, “But we have a great tossed salad” to non-meat eaters asking for options. Today, many restaurants have added a veggie burger to the menu, much to the delight of vegetarians everywhere.

Here is a look at some of the national chains that offer veggie burgers:

Burger King’ BK Veggie Burger

VegCooking.com chose the BK Veggie Burger has the most widely available veggie burger from a restaurant, as Burger King operates over 11,200 locations around the globe. Burger King was the first fast food restaurant to introduce a veggie burger. The BK veggie burger comes on the same sesame seed bun as the other burgers, as well as with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mayo. It’s just like a Veggie Whopper. And, it comes with or without cheese. It can be made vegan by going sans cheese and mayo.

American Idol Rueben Studdard has gone vegetarian and claims that the “BK Veggie Burger is off the chain.

Johnny Rocket’s Streamliner

According to VegCooking.com, Johnny Rocket’s Streamliner earned a PETA Golden Bun Award as the #1 veggie burger in the land, from a chain restaurant anyway. The judges claim that this is the burger to convert someone to vegetarianism, as it is that “meaty.” So if one still wants to enjoy the shakes, malts and the singing staff of this 50s styles diner chain despite being a vegetarian, they can thanks to the Streamliner. And, that’s pretty swell.

Ruby Tuesday’s Veggie Burger

Ruby Tuesday’s version of the veggie burger, which placed second in PETA’s Golden Bun Award, can also be dubbed vegan. With a huge all-you-can eat salad bar option it seems as if Ruby Tuesday is the vegetarian’s dream.
