Morning Star Farms Vegetarian Products

Morning Star Farms, Veggie, Veggie Burgers

If you’re a vegetarian, you may already be familiar with Morning Star Farms. They make veggie burgers and a wide variety of other meat substitutes. Even if you’re not a vegetarian, you might want to check them out. Their products are great, low fat, healthy alternatives to meats.

You can buy Morning Star Farms Products in most grocery stores. Look for them with the frozen foods.

Here are some of my favorites.

Morning Star Farms Garden Veggie Patties

These are my favorite veggie burgers. They have 110 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, and 10 grams of protein per patty. They are great on the grill, but you can also microwave them in just a couple of minutes. I like to serve them on hamburger buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, a slice of Swiss cheese, and spicy mustard or Ranch dressing.

Morning Star Farms makes a wide variety of other veggie burgers, as well. They have Tex-Mex Burgers, Tomato and Basil Pizza Burgers, Spicy Black Bean Burgers, and more. They also make vegan veggie burgers – most of the their veggie burgers are not vegan, though.

Morning Star Farms Chik’n Strips

These are like grilled chicken strips, only they are really made of soy and veggie protein. They go great in all kind of chicken recipes. I make a great Asian-style stir fry with them, and also make a white chili with them that is excellent. They come frozen in the grocery store, but I usually keep them in the refrigerator so they aren’t frozen solid when I’m ready to cook with them.

There are 12 chik’n strips in a serving, which is a fair amount of food. One serving has 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, and 23 grams of protein. The Chik’n Strips are a vegan food product. Morning Star Farms also makes vegan chik’n patties.

Morning Star Farms Recipe Crumbles

These are like ground beef, only made from soy. You can use them to make tacos, chili, spaghetti, anything you would use ground beef in. I use them in chili and have served it to a number of people without telling them what it was, and they thought it was really ground beef.

A serving of recipe crumbles is 2/3 cup. One serving has only 80 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, and 10 grams of protein.

Morning Star Farms Veggie Bacon Strips

These breakfast strips have the flavor of bacon and are crispy and delicious. The texture is not quite the same as real bacon, though. They are missing the fat that is typically marbled through real bacon. You won’t fool anyone into thinking this is real bacon, but it’s still tasty. I like to serve them on a breakfast sandwich consisting of a scrambled egg, a veggie bacon strip, and a slice of cheese on a toasted English muffin.

Two veggie bacon strips contains 60 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, and 2 grams of protein (I know, not so much protein, huh?). These are not vegan, and in fact contain egg white.

These are my favorite Morning Star Farms products, but they make a number of other products as well, including, breakfast sausage patties and link, Italian-style sausages, buffalo wings, chik’n nuggets, and BBQ riblets. Look for them in the freezer section of your grocery store.
