Minute Maid Juice Bars Review

Dove Chocolate, Minute Maid, Skinny Cow

Minute Maid Juice Bars are a low calorie treat when you need something icy cold to cool you off. With 60 calories per serving, they remind me of those frozen juice cubes we used to make using fruit juice, an ice cream tray, a few toothpicks and our freezer. These are a bit more convenient with fold-and-tear triangular shaped packaging. The frozen flavor pops out the top.

My children especially liked the grape flavor, since that was the first to go. But I like having a bit of a variety pack with what are, in my family, the top three favorite flavors: orange, cherry and grape. They don’t even know they are getting a low calorie treat.

Here are a few things I learned about the Minute Maid grape, orange and cherry juice bars from my review.

No. 1: Are the Minute Maid Juice Bars in Orange, Cherry and Grape flavors all natural? They are not a health food in my opinion and do contain both natural and artificial flavors. I’m pleased with the fact they contain 90 percent juice, but displeased they used some high fructose corn syrup. For the cherry flavor, they used Red No. 40 and Blue No. 1. For the grape, they used Red No. 40 and Blue No. 1.

No. 2: Minute Maid Juice Bars in Orange, Cherry and Grape ingredients: apple juice from concentrate, high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients.

No. 3: Minute Maid Juice Bars in Orange, Cherry and Grape nutritional facts: One serving contains 60 calories, no fat and 14 grams of sugar. It contains 100 percent vitamin C for the day. They contain 15 mg sodium. As a comparison, the Skinny Cow Cookies N Cream I reviewed had 18 grams of sugar and 150 calories (as well as high fructose corn syrup). Compared to Skinny Cow, the Minute Maid juice bars are a low calorie treat.

No. 4: Minute Maid is a registered trademark of the Coca Cola Company.

No. 5: The Minute Maid Juice Bars in Orange, Cherry and Grape that I bought from Public Grocery Store came in a package with 12 bars that were 2.25 ounces.

For taste, I give Minute Maid Juice Bars a 4 out of 5 stars. For nutrition, I’d say it’s a good way to get in Vitamin C and it’s low in calories, but stick to just one. I wish the sugar was not high fructose corn syrup. It would make a better after-school snack if they removed the high fructose corn syrup and food coloring, but it’s not a junk food either.

The Minute Maid Juice Bars end up in the gray area in between something healthy and something not as healthy where I like to say we just need to practice portion control–even with a low calorie treat!
