Maintaining a Healthy Immune System

Healthy Immune System

The human body was not made to last forever. People living in bible times however did pretty well.. Genesis 5:27 tell us: So Methuselah’s life lasted 969 years; then he died. Methuselah is recorded as being the longest living human ever.

The Lord made some changes in the next chapter and man’s life span was shortened. Genesis 6:3 says man will have 120 years. All of my life my grandmother and others said anyone who passed away before age 70, had died short of a promised 70 years. This is because Psalms 90:11 says: The days of our years are threescore years and ten; That’s 70 years in layman’s terms.

As a child I had a neighbor whose mother and siblings all died after age 100. Everyone said this man would live to be a centurion, because of good genes and he did. He passed away at 101. I do not ever remember him being sick until the illness that led to his death.

My grandmother died at 91. She lived long but not strong. Her last 20 years were filed with hospital visits, nursing home stays, home health visits, lots of medication, numerous surgeries and using oxygen for her last 5 years.,

Fitness guru Jack Lalane, promoted healthy living and exercise for decades . He lived strong and healthy until he died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia at age 96. I decided I wanted to live long and strong. I want to be healthy, and be self sufficient as long as possible.

One way to accomplish this it to keep a healthy immune system. :Genetics plays a factor in our lives, therrefore we each have varied challenges to our health. There are ways to give your immune system a boost and keep it going strong.

The same things we are told to do to fight cancer, diabetes and prevent heart attack and stroke, will help our immune systems function properly. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Cut back or cut out meat and dairy. Get proper rest, sleep, and exercise. Don’t smoke and limit alcohol.

Age is also a factor that must be considered.. Those of us over 50 must learn to make adjustments that we did not have to 30 years ago. I found this out the hard way.

I am usually the healthy one in my family. Recently I had cold/flu symptoms even though I had received my flu shot. The duration of my symptoms was only 5 days. I know people who were out of commission for several weeks.

As my body was recovering, something new took hold. I developed post nasal drip. For 22 days straight I had that drip down my throat which caused me to have a productive cough. I tried home remedies, over the counter products, saline spray, and steam, all to no avail.

On day 19 I realized that I was treating symptoms, but not the root cause. I knew my immune system had been compromised because of lack of sleep and extra activities. I purchased a box of Cranberry Pomegranate EmergenC dietary supplements. And 3 days later I was symptom free.

The EmergenC replaced nutrients which had been depleted because of stress and improper sleep.rest. The concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in EmergenC was more than I could get by diet alone.

No one thing will guarantee us health and long life. But when we do all we know to do our lives should be much better. The key learning one’s own body. And should symptoms of an illness come upon you, determine where you are out of balance and act accordingly.
