Little Known Dangers of Toxic Mold Exposure

Aspergillosis, Aspergillus, Histoplasmosis, Sick Building Syndrome, Toxic Mold

The medical community is by and large ignorant to the dangers and illnesses of toxic mold exposure. There are a few doctors who have discovered and repeatedly watched people suffering from Sick Building Syndrome who have made some pretty solid evidential ties between mold exposure and severe illness even potential death.

While the CDC and most local medical communities are telling the public that mold really only effects those with sensitivities to it or those with allergies, and the symptoms are primarily congestion and typical allergic reactions, there is a lot they ignore in making these claims.

Ocular Histoplasmosis is a systemic infection that causes blindness in people who have been exposed to Histoplasma Capsulatum, most commonly as a child, and when they grow up they develop visual problems and even blindness. When exposed to the Histoplasma Capsulatum as a child, they likely suffered from flu or cold like symptoms and was dismissed as a summer cold. Histoplasma Capsulatum while being capable of causing blindness in an individual years after exposure is pretty serious, and Histo is not even considered one of the “Toxic Molds” we hear so much about today.

Aspergillus is another mold that is obviously ignored when the CDC and local medical communities down play the seriousness of mold. Very common in bone marrow transplant patients who develop an infection called Aspergillosis, it can also be inhaled and cause bronchial or pulmonary Aspergillosis. Aspergillosis is rarely found in it’s early stages, because it is hard to test for, and most doctors diagnose Aspergillosis as something else. Mold illnesses cause symptoms very similar to viral and bacterial infections and are for that reason not seen as fungal infections and are treated like bacterial infections. The problem is, these treatments don’t always work, and sometimes can make the problem worse. With Aspergillosis, patients who are not diagnosed properly in the early stages of the infection have about a 60% fatality rate. This is a little more serious than an allergic reaction, and yes Aspergillosis unlike Histoplasma Capsulatum IS considered a toxic mold and it is one that is commonly found in homes and businesses that have been labeled as Sick Buildings. Above and beyond the types of Aspergillosis previously mentioned, it can infect the liver, the brain, the skin, and just about any other area of your body.

Now we have toxic molds like Stachybotris, Fusarium, Aspergillus, Penicillium and many more, all of which find livable conditions in and around your home. While diplomacy seems to be to play down the effects of these molds, there are wide spread repeated illnesses and problems that seem to suddenly effect people who live or work in sick buildings. Problems like bleeding lungs in infants, increased cancer rates, neurological disorders and many others have been reported. Perhaps the most common symptoms of people who suffer from toxic mold exposure, outside of the typical respiratory problems are diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, incoherence, severe pain and many more. The list of illnesses and medical problems that go along with mold exposure and are seen repeatedly is far too long to list in this article.

If your children suddenly develop asthma where they didn’t have a problem before, take it seriously. Check your house and ask the school board about the possibility of mold. Asthma developing in a child often times is the precursor to serious issues that develop later. Unfortunately, if you find out later, then a lot of damage has been done to your body, and not all of it will ever repair completely.

There is very little research on exactly what kinds of damage can be done by the mycotoxins produced by mold, most of the studies done by insurance companies and the general establishment are paid studies geared to prove they are relatively harmless, and rarely do they really produce solid scientific evidence or follow scientific procedure. Just as the CDC ignores Aspergillosis and Ocular Histo when telling us they only produce an allergic type reaction, they also ignore the fact that they don’t really know what any of the 50,000+ strains of mold can do to the human body. Since they don’t know, they are satisfied with allergic reaction as their diagnosis and stance on mold exposure, but prolonged exposure like living in a moldy home year after year, or working in a moldy environment every day year after year, they really do not know what the cumulative effects are or can be, but many people have suffered serious health problems and have even been disabled by exposure to molds.

You can read some toxic mold stories and learn a lot more about Toxic mold at The Joy of Hope Foundation, a foundation founded for the purpose of helping mold victims get the assistance they need. It is a fledgling, but it is already building a list of personal horror stories of what mold can do to you. Mold is natures biodegrader of organic matter, don’t be it’s next feast.
