When it comes to diapering your baby there are a number of brands available to choose from. Although I have used the P&C; store brand Top Care pampers on all of my kids, I decided to recently give Huggies a try on my newborn. Following is a product comparison on the two brands and which one I prefer to continue using in the future.
Huggies are a very popular brand of pampers that parents often choose for their babies. After using this brand for a month I have found both good and bad things about it. One of the good things about Huggies is the convenient umbilical cord cutout for newborns, which made it easier to take care of my son’s cord the first two weeks after he was born. I also liked the different character designs that these pampers come in, my favorite being Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. There were few drawbacks to using Huggies, but what little drawbacks there were had a significant impact on my overall impression of the brand. The price for this brand is a little more expensive than the Top Care brand, costing about $10 for a pack of 40 diapers. I also found that my son would break out in a rash when I used this brand, which means that I had to spend extra money stocking up on rash cream. All in all I would have to give Huggies brand pampers a score of 3 out of 5.
P&C;’s Top Care brand of pampers is a brand that I have been using for a while now. While this is a relatively unfamiliar brand to a lot of parents, it is also a brand that holds it’s own against the competition. I have found great reasons to continue using Top Care, one of which is the price. For $8 you get a package of 46 pampers, a big comparison to the package and price offered by Huggies. While a $2 savings may not be a big deal to some, for our family of 7 this is a great deal. Another good thing about this brand is how the pampers seem to agree with my son’s skin. Since using this brand on him (and my other children as well) he has yet to break out in any rashes, which provides two benefits; one: he is more comfortable, and two: I spend less money on diaper rash ointment. While there are some drawbacks that I have found with this brand they are pretty inconsequential. The biggest problem I have had with them is that they aren’t as absorbent as Huggies, which means if I don’t change my son right away there is a pretty good chance his clothes will end up soaked through. On the upside, he never has to sit in a wet diaper very long, but I find that we go through quite a few diapers in a single day. This means that we have to buy pampers more often than we would like. Some other drawbacks include no umbilical cord cutout (which was a problem when my son still had his cord) and the fact that this brand only comes in one design. Overall, I give P&C;’s Top Care brand pampers a score of 4 out of 5.
Both Huggies brand and Top Care brand pampers have benefits and drawbacks and both can be considered a good fit to a baby’s needs. While I had mainly good experiences with both brands, I found that the Top Care brand is a better choice for my son. Huggies are a great brand, but unfortunately my son’s apparent allergic reaction to them, as well as the higher price helped me decide against using them in the future. In the end, my son’s comfort is the deciding factor in choosing a brand of pampers and far outweighs any other benefits or drawbacks a brand may have to offer.
