How to Sneak Out of the House at Night

Whether you want the thrill of sneaking out of your house or to go somewhere late at night. There are situations that you must consider and prepare an alibi or plan if you do get caught or spotted. What if my mom calls? What if my parents call the police? What if a cop finds me? You should always be aware especially at night, maybe to a point of paranoia, but it’s not necessary if you know what you’re doing. Once you sneak out of your house, you gotta be careful at night too.

Overview

First of all, make sure you know when your parents go to sleep. Once they’re asleep, perfect time to sneak out. Plan how you’re going to sneak out. Have it mentally stamped upon your brain. I don’t recommend writing it down because your parents might spot it. Estimate how long it’ll take you to sneak out and come back. Do a run-through sneaking out during the day when no one is at home. If you don’t have a ride once you sneak out of your house, take in account the path you’ll take to wherever you’re going and back home. If you don’t know a path to take, do some research on Google Maps and find a path using small streets instead of the main ones. Make sure you know are aware of the time at all times as well as people and vehicles. Always have a backup plan and an excuse if you get caught. Getting caught by your parents is better than getting caught by the police. Basically, be prepared.

Sneaking Out of the House

Make sure you act natural as possible. Don’t talk to your friends about sneaking out unless it’s by text. Don’t IM or call about the plan as your parents can overhear or walk into your room while your on AIM or any other instant messenger. You can either wait until your parents fall asleep if they don’t force you go to sleep or you can pretend to go to sleep and wait for your parents to fall asleep. Don’t try to sneak out once they hit the lights, wait for at least 15 minutes to half-an-hour. My parents have trouble falling asleep sometimes so I wait it out.

Once you think your parents are asleep. Close your door and change into your clothes. Wear midnight blue or navy blue shirt and jeans. They fade nicely into the night if there isn’t any nearby light posts. Alternatively, you could wear black but they stand out the most in the light and isn’t as effective as midnight blue. Or, instead of changing in your room, hide your night clothes outside and change into them. It helps to hide a backpack full of the stuff your need as well as your clothes outside to get once you’re out of the house.

Pack up everything you need. Make sure you’re not weighed down so much that’ll it could make noise or slow you down. Don’t leave your cellphone. Take it with you in case your parents find out you sneaked out so they won’t call the cops. Make sure you lock it so you won’t accidentally call your parents or anyone else. Bring something to protect yourself such as a blunt object or a pocket knife. Don’t use it on the cops or you’ll even get into more deep stuff. Alternatively, you can hide everything outside you need during the day and pick it up once you sneak out of the house.

Put some pillows or teddy bears under your sheets to resemble the basic outline of your body. Leave a note as well if your parents find out that you sneaked out. This way, they’ll call you to make sure you’re safe and they won’t resort to calling the cops. Turn off all the lights in your room and keep your door closed.

Finally, sneak out of your house. Make sure you know where you’re going and the possibilities that could unfold. Does your door squeak? Put some vaseline or WD-40 on the hinge and clean it up after. Do you have an alarm system? Disable it from the control box if you know the password but set it back once you come back. Do you have pets? Try to avoid them altogether if possible or find an alternate route. Most pets can easily wake up or make noises when they see you. What if your parents see you? Just say you were getting milk to help your sleep and you didn’t want to wake them up. What if the way you sneaked out you cant sneak back in? Leave something on the window to make it open a small crack for you to reopen once you come back or use an alternate route. If all else fails, try to go through the front door as quietly as possible. Can the neighbors see me? If you’re unsure, take another route, it’ll always safe then sorry. Once you sneak out, you’re home free if you have a ride to and back home. Read on if ya don’t have a ride.

Always have an alibi if you’re parents call. If you’re close by, say you wanted to get some fresh air because you were stressed about something. If you’re far away or already at your destination, your going to have to spill the beans, unless you can come up with a full-proof alibi (I cannot in this situation). Even if you manage to use an excuse, your parents will be suspicious for probably a few weeks so don’t try to sneak out again until maybe a month or 2.

If you’re ever confronted by a random stranger, just ignore him. If that person tries to do anything to you, run. It’s better than fighting which can attract attention to you or possibly get hurt. If you get confronted by the police, remember that they can’t search through your stuff unless they have a warrant. If they tell you to show an ID,
don’t show it, but it depends on your state laws. If they tell you to call your parents, don’t call them unless you are legally arrested. They can’t question you without parental supervision if you are a legal minor. Note, no matter what you say to the police, they’ll escort you home with their car and inform your parents.

Make sure you’re always aware of your surroundings. Try your best to stay off main streets as they have more light posts and more traffic, which means a higher chance for a police car to pass by. If you see someone coming in your direction, hide somewhere. If you think a police car is passing by, run and hide and stay as still as possible. Try hiding behind a bush or behind a light post. Usually they focus on the light more than the darkness behind it. When hiding, don’t make any sudden or abrupt movements. If there is a tree, climb up and hide up there, most likely the person looking for you will only search on ground level.

There isn’t much anymore to say but to always have a story, be aware of your surroundings, and know how to act during a situation. Preparation is a must when sneaking out. Doing it spontaneously might get you lucky a few times but not all the time if you sneak out regularly. Sneaking out can actually become a hobby. All you need to do is plan ahead and sneak.
