How to Pack for a West Texas Vacation

Blue Jeans, Lip Moisturizer, West Texas

Are you planning a trip to West Texas? If so, you will need some items when visiting West Texas that you may not need when visiting other areas. So, why not make the best of your West Texas vacation by packing all the right items. Here is what you will need when you visit West Texas:

Sunscreen and chapstick. The West Texas sun is scorching, even on an overcast day. It will beat down on you in the most unrelenting manner, and you won’t find much shade in West Texas because it’s dry and flat. So, protect your skin by packing plenty of sunscreen and lathering up with it on a daily basis. Also, try to always wear some type of chapstick or lip moisturizer to keep your lips from cracking. Even if it’s not that hot in West Texas, which is really rare, a windy day can quickly damage your skin and lips, so be sure to protect both.

Ball caps and/or sunshades. You’ll want to take along a ball cap or a pair of sunshades (or even both) to help shade your eyes from the glaring sun and the dust that frequently kicks up in dry West Texas. West Texas men regularly wear ball caps, and it’s not uncommon to see West Texas women wearing them, too, especially if they’re at a rodeo or some type of horse event. West Texas women typically pull their hair back in a ponytail or even through the back of the ball cap to keep their hair out of their eyes, so you’ll be in style when you wear a ball cap in West Texas, whether you’re a man or a woman.

Blue jeans and sneakers. The dry land is hard on your body in West Texas, so one of the most prized possessions in West Texas is a broken-in pair of blue jeans. In fact, you’ll find someone wearing blue jeans wherever you go, even in a court of law in some cases. So, be sure to pack several pair of well-worn blue jeans to pair up with casual shirts, but do take along some dressy shirts and a blazer, as well. All you have to do for evening wear is to pair up a nice shirt and blazer with a pair of well-worn jeans and some boots (or nice shoes), and you’ll be set. Don’t go out and buy a bunch of new jeans, though, or you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

Swimsuit. The West Texas sun is scorching hot on your body. Even if you typically do not swim, you’ll quickly find yourself wishing you did. So, go ahead and take along a swimsuit just in case you want to take a dip in the motel pool. Even if you stay out of the water, it’s nice to wear your swimsuit with a pair of shorts or a pair of well-worn jeans when scouting the flea markets. You can always pour a bottle of water over yourself to cool off as you walk in the hot, West Texas sun. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, even if you plan on being out for only a few hours. The West Texas sun cooks the skin quickly.

Lots of water. Lots of water is the key to staying hydrated in the West Texas sun. You may prefer a carbonated beverage, but opt for the water, instead. If you absolutely do not want to drink water, opt for water-based, non-carbonated beverages such as tea or lemonade. You can get some of the best sweet tea around in West Texas, so take advantage of this. When you visit a restaurant, you can even order a glass of water, a plate of lemons, and some artificial sweetener to make yourself a fresh glass of lemonade. Any way you go about it, just make sure to hydrate yourself often to avoid passing out in the West Texas sun.
