How to Make a Coupon Carrier

Coupon Organizer

There are many ways to save money on grocery, clothes, or other items for your home. You can clip coupons to help cut back your costs on many items. Coupons can be found in the Sunday paper in the section with the retail ads and in some Wednesday papers. A person can also find coupons on the internet they can print out to use at their favorite stores.

Also, coupons can be found in your credit card statements you use at retail stores, such as JC Penny’s, Kohl’s or Stage. Not only do these stores send out the coupons in their statements to their customers, they will also send out special coupons for their card holders in the mail separately from the credit card coupons.

Anyone who uses coupons each day or week they shop for their groceries can tell you keeping their coupons together and organized in their purses is quite a chore. This is especially true if you drop your coupons in your purse. Any female can tell you the bottom of her purse becomes the Bermuda Triangle. Thus, this is why a coupon organizer or carrier is needed for coupon addicts.

Coupon carriers are rather easy to make at home. They can be made from many different items. There have been people I have seen using envelopes, index card boxes, small envelope boxes they have emptied, ones they have crocheted or ones they have made from quilted style materials.

You will learn how to make a coupon carrier using the index card boxes with tabs.

Index Card Box Coupon Carrier

You can use either size of the index card boxes for this coupon carrier. The index boxes will range from approximately $2 to $4 depending one where you purchase them. The index card tabs will range from $1 to $3 depending on where you purchase them. I would suggest one of your local dollar style stores. This would save you money since this project is about saving money with coupons.

You can print on each of the index card tabs the different categories for each of your coupons. Here is a helpful hint when separating your coupons. Separate your coupons by isle and department. Each of the isles is designated to specific products. For example, the isles in your supermarket are set up as follows, soda, water and beer isle; chip isle, canned vegetables (which includes pastas, dried beans, etc.), sauce and canned meat isle, baking isle, cereal isle, paper product isle, cleaning isle, and pet product isle.

You will also have your meat department, dairy department, produce department, frozen foods, and then specialty departments, such as a deli’s, butcher block, and bakeries.

Now you have the coupon carrier set up, file your coupons accordingly. Each week clip and file your coupons you cut from the inserts from your Sunday paper or from printing them off of your computer. I would suggest placing the coupon carrier back in your car each time you have completed the addition of your coupons and after each shopping trip. This will help you to remember to take your coupons with you each time you go shopping.
