Using half double and double crochet this blanket will be done in a jiffy.
This blanket looks best with a multicolored baby yarn or done in stripes. The choice is yours.
You will need: 2skanes red hart baby yarn or the baby yarn of your choice and your favorite crochet hook.
This beautiful blanket starts in one corner with one stitch and slowly grows to form a square. If you choose you can add the edging of your choice or simply use half double stitches around the edge for the simple look. The look will also change depending on the size of hook you use; a smaller hook will be a tighter blanket with less of a lacy look a large hook will have a very open and lace like appearance.

First the abbreviations
Ch=chain stitch
Hcd =half double crochet
Dc =double crochet
Row 1: ch 3, hcd in the first c, hch 2 turn
Row 2: 2 hdc in the first hdc, and2 hdc in the turning chain, ch 2 turn, you will have 4 stitches
Row 3: hdc 2 in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next two stitches, and 2 hdc in the turning chain chain 2 turn you will have 6 stitches
Row 4: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next 4 stitches, and two hdc in the turning chain, ch 2 turn, you will have 8 stitches
Row 5: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in each of the next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in the turning chain, ch 2 turn, you will have 10 stitches.
Row 6: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in each of the next 8 stitches, 2 hdc in the turning chain, ch 2 turn, you will have 12 stitches.
Row 7-: continue in this fashion increasing 2 stitches each row until the 2 square sides of the triangle measure 36 inches. This will depend on the size of your hook, and then you will need to start decreasing 2 stitches each row by doing the following;
To decrease ch2 to turn as usual to turn place your hook through the next stitch and bring up a loop of yarn you now have two loops on the hook, do the same for the second stitch bringing up a third loop and finish the decrease the same as for a hdc.
Continue working 1stitch across until you reach the last two stitches, bring up a loop like before in the second stitch from the end and another loop from the turning chain you will have 3 loops on your hook, and bring the yarn trough all3 stitches as for an hdc, ch 2 and turn.
Continue decreasing in this fashion until you are down to one stitch, Tie off yarn and weave in ends.
For a boarder you can simply crochet half doubles around the edge of your blanket or add a row of doubles on top of the hdc edging. You can also make the edging as wide or as narrow as you wish, add a few shell stitches *5 dc in one stitch skip 1 stitch, repeat from *around edge of blanket after the first hdc row.
This blanket is an easy way to make something that looks really pretty without too much counting of stitches or changing of colors unless you want a striped blanket. You can also make the center one color and the edging another. I made this blanket for twins and reversed the colors on the second blanket.
