Elegant hairstyles for long hair can be sexy, sassy, conservative, or even messy. Many women look for elegant hairstyles especially around a holiday, for a wedding, or a prom. What is considered an elegant hairstyle for long hair these days? There is no right or wrong elegant hairstyle, because what you might feel is elegant may be dull and boring to someone else.

Being a professional beautician and creating hundreds of elegant hairstyles on long hair throughout the years, I have to say a few of the most elegant hairstyles for long hair are still hot today. Long hair can be quite a challenge when trying to pin it up. You have to make sure you use the right hair accessories and products in order for the style to stay in. For most elegant long hairstyles they usually require bobby pins, hairspray, mousse, curling iron, blow dryer, and the best tool your fingers.

There is also elegant hairstyles for long hair that require little time and hardly any products such as a half up half down hairstyle, messy bun at the nape of neck with curls flowing down, or hair in all curls with a hair accessory added to it such as a headband.

Multiple braids or ponytails– Some women may not find braids or ponytails elegant at all, but if done right they can actually look quite exquisite, especially with added hair accessories to them. When making an elegant hairstyle on long hair with braids or ponytails it can actually give your hair a fuller appearance.

To create a braided hairstyle or ponytail hairstyle is quite easy. You will need styling gel or mousse, elastic bands, comb, and a fancy hair accessory.

First step- Your best bet is to shampoo and condition the hair 2 days prior to the event. I know it may sound crazy, but dirty hair works better when creating a style.

Second step- Make sure the hair is free of knots

Third step- Decide how many braids or ponytails you wish to have. When creating a braid or ponytail style I suggest making anywhere from 3-6 braids or ponytails.

Fourth step- Use your comb and section the hair from ear to ear pin it up with a hair clip. Now the section that’s in the hair clip will be used to create the braids or ponytails. If you are using 3 make one on each side and one in the middle. You can leave your bangs out or tuck them in with the braid or ponytail.

Add rhinestones in-between and around the braids or ponytails. The length that is hanging down can be left straight or curled with a curling iron.

Sleek front braided knot with curls– This elegant hairstyle has lots of pizzazz to it. It can be simple and classy or totally funky and creative. You will need styling gel, spray, comb, hair bands, curling iron, hair serum, and hair clips.

First step- Start by placing gel on your entire head. Smooth it out by using a comb.

Second step- Decide on which side you want to place the part on. Create a straight or zigzag part using the end of the comb. Then gather the rest of the hair into a ponytail on top of the crown area. Spray the hair with hairspray.

Third step- This is where the creativity comes in. Make a few small braids and a few small ponytails. Wrap them around the base of the ponytail creating a knot look. Then create a few more place on the top, to the side, or back and pin them using bobby pins. The more braids you can make and intertwine the cooler it will look.

Flat twists with curls- This elegant hairstyle is mainly for long hair, but can be done on short or medium hair as well. You will need a curling iron, elastic bands, comb, hairspray, bobby pins, and hair gel.

First step- Lightly place hair gel in the front of hair and sides of hair. Then use your comb and make sections on each side. The section should be about 1-2 inches wide. Twist the section all the way until you get to the end and can’t twist no more.

Second step- Pull the twisted section towards the back of head and pin using a bobby pin. Do this until the sections are done. Now all you should have hanging down is the length in the back.

Third step- Curl the rest of the hair using a big barrel curling iron. After each curl spray with hairspray. Run your fingers through the curls and let it go.

Last step- Add some flowers or rhinestones to the sections with the flat twists.

Big barrel curls with pinned ringlets– For this elegant hairstyle you will need gel, big curling iron, medium curling iron, bobby pins, hairspray, and comb.

First step- Smooth the hair back on top with gel and a comb. Leave the bangs out if desired. Gather the hair into a ponytail on top of the crown area.

Second step- Make small sections and curl each one using the bigger curling iron. After you curl each section tuck under your fingers and pin with a bobby pin. You can stack the curls or lay them in different places.

Use the smaller curling iron and curl each section until you have completed the entire length. Spray with hairspray and start pinning the curls in different ways. If you stack the curls it will give you more of a fuller look. Picture of this style will be included with this article.

Last elegant hairstyle for long hair would be to do the opposite of what you have. If your hair is completely straight then curl it using a curling iron and make sexy waves. If your hair is extremely curly use a flat iron and make it sleek and shiny. Then add a few decorative hair accessories to give it more glamour.
